1039 Smoothed out Slappy Hours is the debut album of the band Green Day. It was published in 1991 by Lookout Records, and sold very well for an independently released album, selling a whopping 2 copies. This was the only album to feature John "I drop my drumsticks once every 8 seconds during live performances" Kiffmeyer on drums.

Making of the album

In 1990, the lead singer of Green Day, Billie Joe Armstrong, decided it would be a great idea to make an LP, after the releases of 2 EPs. The result of this idea is 39/Smooth, which has been criticized for many reasons, one of these reasons being that the microphone was just a half eaten sandwich. After this, Larry Livermore, CEO of Lookout Records, decided to take Green Day's first 2 EPs and 39/Smooth, put them on one CD, and market it as a whole new album. This proved successful, as the album sold a whopping 2 copies, and was critically acclaimed by everyone and their grandmothers. Livermore has been quoted in saying "Thanks to that album, I have 14 dollars!" The 1st EP on this album, 1,000 Hours, was recorded at the Art of Ears studio in 1988, mixed and produced by Andy Ernst. It's original release was criticized for false advertising, as many people thought that the EP would be 1,000 hours in length. After Larry Livermore dismissed the claims of false advertising, people started accusing Livermore of false advertising himself, stating "Although his name is Larry Livermore, he doesn't have more livers than he should." Livermore responded to these claims by stating "This is fucking ridiculous. Shut the hell up." The second EP on the album, Slappy, was also recorded in the Art of Ears studio, but was produced and mixed by a deaf person. Since the producer/mixer couldn't hear, he was completely unable to produce or mix the album correctly. So in other words, the whole thing sounded like complete shit. 39/Smooth was recorded with half of a Five Dollar Footlong from subway at a random park in Berkely California. The album was originally 20 tracks long, but Larry Livermore got extraordinarily hungry and ate half of the sub. Some of the songs he had eaten had been revealed later that week when he got sick and puked all over the 1039 Smoothed out Slappy Hours CD. Some of them are "World vs. World", "Maybe Forever", and "Jennifer (Future Old Boy)". Livermore stated that "I'm not sure how it even played"

Reception

The album was well recieved, and ratings range from 0.1 stars to 0.2 stars. Critics complimented the fact that "The album is complete shit" and noted that "People should never buy this. In 2002 it was revealed to be Osama Bin Laden's favorite album. In 2005, Osama revealed he had lied about liking the album, and that "It's a piece of shit, and coming from me, it's saying something".

Other Notes

It's widely speculated that John Kiffmeyer is a stolen mannequin from Kohl's that Billie wants you to think is a man. The mannequin has been said to have been broken some time in 1991, so they hired refrigerated TV dinner Tray Cool to drum for the band.
