Hi everyone,

I've recently been working on an idea for a new contest format, a single-elimination tournament, and I'd like to try holding an experimental 4-person tournament (half of a "normal" 8-person tournament) sometime this month to see how well it would work in practice.

What I need specifically are seven editors (three judges and four participants) for a two-week period. The participants would have one week to submit an article and judges would choose the winners at the end of the week. This would be repeated the following week. If anyone is interested in volunteering, just sign up below. Thanks for reading. MadMax 09:07, May 1, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks to everyone who's signed up. Just to clarify, the tournament will start next Sunday. Entries can be of any topic or namespace. After one week, the entries (either in mainspace or userspace) will be locked and judged. MadMax 16:23, May 4, 2011 (UTC)

Participants (0 spots open, so fuck off)

To view the current tournament bracket, see here.

Final round

Judges (0 spots open (except one, but you don't want to hear about that)

Popcorn, Hot Dog and Beer (and don't forget lollipops) concessions

Witty* commentary

Half time show performance

Stuff

Is there a start date for the test thingy? :) --ShabiDOO 00:01, May 4, 2011 (UTC)

The opening round lasts from May 8-14, and the final from May 15-21. MadMax 16:23, May 4, 2011 (UTC)

"If I could I have a volunteer from the audience" ?!?!? What terrible grammar! I'm not paying anymore attention to this! --Wilytank can be a pain in the ass. 11:00, May 5, 2011 (UTC)

Ah, yet another pilot of ours. Speaking of which, we should have an article on television pilots. They are, after all, the birthplace of our favorite shoes. --Scofield 15:02, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
I think I'm in love with that sentence... except it seems to be snubbing me. What is this?!

1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 15:38, 12 May 2011 That's an interesting concept bro. Can't wait to see how it develops. Where will we be able to see the articles on May 14? Will they jump at us when we log in, trying to rape us? Talk Mattsnow 23:47, May 13, 2011 (UTC)

Holly shit. This is cool! --Mimo&Maxus (Talk) 18:40, May 14, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. The results will posted here tomorrow night, with the official scoring by the judges, as well as on this page. MadMax 08:54, May 14, 2011 (UTC)
I went to your page and I think this is great! I hope it works, (It will, it will) and would certainly like to participate in a future tournament. Good work bro. Talk Mattsnow 12:07, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

Final first round

Mr. Organiser, Do we have until 23.59 UTC tomorrow (the 15th) or today (the 14th) to finish up the articles!?!?! --ShabiDOO 13:40, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

The writing deadline ends at 23:59 (UTC) tonight (May 14). The judges should announce the winners by 23:59 (UTC) tomorrow (May 15). MadMax 17:34, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

Only four people could contest, and a few more signed up as judges. But you can still help Frosty and I handle the concessions - that's where the real money is. Aleister 18:50 14-5-'11
Can.. Can I help with you guys? I can make really good popcorn. I burn it every time. But it`s good, trust me. Cat the Colourful (Feed me!) Zzz Zzz...morning? 13:07, 15 May, 2011 (UTC)
Just put up a concession stand and the money rolls in. Don't you notice how movie theaters charge about as much for popcorn as they do for a movie, and the popcorn costs nothing to make and even less for the liquidly death-goo they put on it? Ka-ching! I'm selling the lollipops. Now my shop will have more business. --Care for a lick? Lollipop Care for a lick? - CONTRIBS - WRITINGS - SHOP - Now adopting! - 23:48, 15 May 2011
Hmm... There are very good flavours... Are you interested of Popcornlollipop? In here, Finland, we just got a new ice cream-flavour: Popcorn. And, yes, it`s real! I`m not lying! Come to Finland and taste it out! You can find it out that it won`t sadly taste popcorn... Worried Icecream eater from Finland 5:45, 16.5 2011
I'll gladly create a popcorn lollipop. The shop hasn't been doing well since March, and it needs a boost. --Care for a lick? Lollipop Care for a lick? - CONTRIBS - WRITINGS - SHOP - Now adopting! - 20:33, 16 May 2011

Like, uh...

How do we judge this? 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 16:34, 15 May 2011

We list the articles - sorry article - in order of preference under our name. --Black Flamingo 20:07, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
Where are the articles? It seems there is only one ready, the one Shabidoo wrote... Talk Mattsnow 20:26, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
So maybe he wins his sectional. The other bracket needs a winner too. Aleister 21:05 15-5-'11
Yeah, I really wanna know what is happening with this. I would really like to participate in a tournament where you have one week (or 2, if that's what people want) to come up with an article, the concept is so good. I hope this great idea works. That would be great, friendly competition. I'm following it eagerly. Talk Mattsnow 22:54, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
Incredible. This is what it takes for Shabidoo to win a tournament! Hahahaha. !!! --ShabiDOO 23:03, May 15, 2011 (UTC)

Judges can either post their picks in the Judges section or create their own subpage. MadMax 10:02, May 16, 2011 (UTC)

I believe this is the point at which I say: 'What he said.' *points up*

1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 23:08, 15 May 2011

Nope. I say give emc time to get something up and ZB time to write something. There wasn't even a reminder posted for us. Just a declaration that judging had started, which was complete bullshit. MegaPleb Dexter111344 Complain here 23:15, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
Since Dexter actually wrote an article apparently, how about we extend the judging period a bit? Or for the real tournament we'll just use the sitenotice for reminders. --Littleboyonly.jpg TKFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK Oldmanonly.jpg 23:23, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
I don't see anything wrong with extending the time users can write, but theres nothing bullshit about someone not reminding you about a deadline you knew about. Its also an experimental tournament, a try to see what works and what doesnt. You dont need to put a banner at the top for a trial tournament four people are participating in. --ShabiDOO 23:35, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
Shabidoo makes some good points, but since this is an experiment like he says, nobody cares. --Littleboyonly.jpg TKFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK Oldmanonly.jpg 23:48, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
Hahaha. Yes, no one cares. Im not going to write another article for the second round, cause no one else really took it seriously. Probably better to do a second trial, or go ahead and try the tournament out for real. --ShabiDOO 23:52, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
Oh now don't give up so quickly! Let's make the second round something interesting! --Littleboyonly.jpg TKFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK Oldmanonly.jpg 00:43, May 16, 2011 (UTC)
LOL, I agree with your judging Killer Froggy, I don't want to piss anybody but it would be great if someone says they are gonna participate, they could manage to come up with something to honor their word. Let's pit Shabidoo against Zombiebaron I guess! This concept is very promising and I'd like to be a part of it. An option could be to give 2 weeks to the contestants? Just food for thought here. Talk Mattsnow 04:00, May 19, 2011 (UTC)

Normally ZB and Shabidoo would advance to the finals via forfeit but I don't mind extending the time a bit if it's alright with everyone else. I did consider the idea of using "understudies" but I though it would be easier to use the former system and keep the contest shorter.

I wasn't sure if it was appropriate to list this as a site notice since this is a more of a personal side project than an official contest. It was intended more towards readers who might be interested in the results rather than a reminder to the participants. MadMax 10:01, May 16, 2011 (UTC)

MadMax, yes, the banner at the top, theres nothing wrong with it. I was refering to putting a banner up top, to remind people about the deadline of a tournament, which is pretty silly. I agree with Zombiebaron that the banners should be very limited and used sparringly. It just doesn't seem to me that anyone is going to submit their articles this time around. Why not try another test round or start the tournament again. Also...consider not pitting one player against another but pooling all of the participants in one bracket and eliminating half each time...so as to avoid cases where players win simply by another participant not writing. Just a thought). --ShabiDOO 14:10, May 16, 2011 (UTC)
It's still not as bad as savethemooses featuring his own articles because he could.--<<Bradmonogram.png>> 02:13, May 30, 2011 (UTC)
Oh my god... it's BRAD!-- Imrealized ...hmm? 03:16, May 30, 2011 (UTC)

Final Round

Both articles are promising. ZB's needs more content (obviously) and Shab needs to work on refining what he's got. There. Oh wait, I have to pick a winner? I guess I'll go with "Uncyclopedia made my life more different" by Shabidoo, simply because there was more to like. I declare this contest a success. Now let's all get drunk. --Black Flamingo 10:47, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

Same sentiment as Flamingo, except I go with Zombiebaron. Less is more, and right now Shabidoo's article rambles more than a drunk grandfather on Memorial Day. --Littleboyonly.jpg TKFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK Oldmanonly.jpg 17:35, June 5, 2011 (UTC)
The section at the end of the long one has a separate paragraph. It's not entirely block of text. I figured I should mention this because it's entirely relevant. And it has good bits. It just gets too wonky and whatnot in places. The short one seems more reasonable overall, and has quite a few more paragraph breaks. I like paragraph breaks. They're very relevant. Sometimes. Maybe. Although it's odd that they're both somewhat self-referential.

1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 17:58, 5 June 2011

Okay...so its a mediochre tie I guess. Hurray! --ShabiDOO 19:24, June 5, 2011 (UTC)
P.S. blakc flamingo, Im truly aware that the article needs a lot of cuts and some strengthening. Wanna help me with it?!?!?! Colab!? --ShabiDOO 19:39, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

P.S. can you guys give a little more feed back then just "rambling". Part of the value of these competitions is actual feedback. Anything would be really appreciated or a pee-review would make me ecstatic. I've already cut about 40% of the article. Please!?!?!

It was hard to tell what's going on. Started talking about things with almost no lead up to them, and no explanation, or reference to or hint of how they happened at all. I haven't reread it since your go-over, though. Anyhow, well-done both of you, methinks.

Thanks lyrithya. Would anyone like to expand on that? Could someone give me more feedback than "rambles more than a drunk grandfather on Memorial Day" or "The section at the end of the long one has a separate paragraph". That is, while helpful, pretty unhelpful. I´m not phishing for compliments or not, just feedback, like you get on all the other competitions? Even a few sentences? --ShabiDOO 12:46, June 10, 2011 (UTC)
