Although we won't be having any new VFS this month, the non existing cabal agrees upon promoting Manticore from his currently shameful genitalia janitorial status to a fully fledged sysop, following his contribution to the site (observe! I wrote site, rather than SIGHT yes?) and following the previous janitorial promotion we had with Jack_Phoenix.

Manticore has been opped. Thank you to all voters on both sides for participating in this fine (almost) democratic process. -- Sir Codeine K·H·P·B·M·N·C·U·Bu. · (Harangue) 12:51, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Strong 4. Also, my name is not written with a fucking underscore! Underscores: 1) suck 2) are used only in IRC due to lame IRC developers 3) fail. --User:Jack Phoenix/sig 12:35, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
I dunno, I wrote an underscore, I got to your userpage. Seems to me you are at fail. ~Jewriken.GIF 12:41, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Against both the concepts of opping users in a month that the (overwhelming) majority of admins have voted against opping users in, and the idea of cicumventing VFS for "special cases". Even dear sweet sannse had to go through VFS, and she could have just opped herself. -- Brigadier General Sir Zombiebaron 20:06, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm confused, didn't you say here that a separate vote was needed for Jack? — Sir Manticore progress-wheel.gif 10:12, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Very Late Reply - No, because sannse was opped through the regular VFS system. The comment that I made in that diff was a response to people saying that Jack should "just be opped" (without a vote). -- Brigadier General Sir Zombiebaron 13:00, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Ah, sorry, I got confuzzled. For what it's worth, I would have rather gone through VFS, but it just turned out this way. — Sir Manticore progress-wheel.gif 14:37, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Againist I really hate to vote against here as I think Manticore is a good user, and would make a great OP. However, if we need more OPs we have a process for that and it's been decided that we don't. I'm not against making janitors sysops, and I voted for Jack_Phoenix last time because we needed all we could get then. If we don't need more OPs now, then um... we don't need more OPs. Also, Manticore currently has a total of 1,500 or so edits, of which only 500 or so are in the main space. For me, that does not make Manticore one of the more experienced users. If we are going to make a new Sysop, it should be Modusoperandi. MrN Icons-flag-gb.png HalIcon.png WhoreMrn.png Fork you! 19:00, Apr 17

  • abgainstain. Our ops should really come from VFS and be users who spend more time editing uncyc than helping with the rest of wikia. I like manticore, but i dont think we should op him. Besides, he's already got the exact same power, and it would only serve people like Bradaphraser to say at next months VFS "yea we just got another guy, no more this month". And besides that, There are far better candidares from our normal userlist to be oping janitors. --Lieutenant THEDUDEMAN Dude ... Totally UOTM KUN GotA F@H 03:35, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
  • For, and here's why. While the points made above about VFS and democracy in general are very true, we seem to be treating it like some kind of "prize" to be won. This may or may not be true for some VFS voting rounds, and I can think of more than one occasion when ops have seemingly been bestowed upon a user just for being around a lot (either here or IRC); however, in this case, as with Jack Phoenix, we have someone who actualyl has the admin tools but is bound by procedure not to use them. There's been several occasions when Manticore has asked me on IRC to ban a vandal whose edits he's already reverted, which seems a bit daft really. And sannse's opping (that someone mentioned above) took place at a time when we had significantly less administrators and users, as well as before Wikia introduced the Janitor flag (if I've got the chronology correct). So, yeah. I don't think the VFS process will be harmed by this. -- Sir Codeine K·H·P·B·M·N·C·U·Bu. · (Harangue) 16:24, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Strong against adding more sysops at this time. We're already seeing that pages are deleted here at least as quickly as they can be created while infibans are handed out indiscriminately with no warning nor explanation - in some cases even as a means of taking IRC-related disputes and dragging them on-wiki. Growth of the English-language Uncyclopedia has therefore just about ground to a halt, even while many other related wikis are growing rapidly (pt: and ja: each recently created their respective 10000th articles). Often, edits that aren't vandalism (such as a copyedit which makes a page shorter by removing the random garbage that seems to get added to too many pages) are falling victim to a trigger-happy use of [rollback] based solely on bytecount. These problems need to be resolved before even asking about reviving the VFS process; circumventing it will do more harm than good so let's not and say we didn't? --Carlb 05:43, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
I agree with Carl on a lot of these issues (though not all). I think it may should be brought to another forum to discuss in the near future.--<<Bradmonogram.png>> 10:27, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
And I'll have to disagree with Carl on a lot of these issues. First on, the numbers of sysops on the list doesn't represent anything. How many active sysops do we have here? 5? 6? 10 on a really good week? Last week I spend two hours by myself reverting an idiot with a dynamic IP, I'd hardly say that shows on saturation of sysops. As for the deletion? First off we (as the active sysops) slowed down the rate of deletion for the past two months or so. Still, would you like us retain the daily flood of crap, profanity, cyberbulling pornography, vanity etc? We only deleter what is utterly iredeamble shit. And there is more than enough of it. As for the inifnibans - should I or any other sysop spend time writing "infinibanning vandal who blanks pages in rapid succession"? For whose benefit exactly? I have confidence in mine and the other admin's common sense when banning someone. If someone got an infiniban, he must have done something well to deserve it. Also, banned users who think they've been wrongly accused ALWAYS find their way to the IRC channel, and after pleading their case usualy get unbanned. As for the IRC, I personally think that seperating those two is wrong. This is Uncyclopedia's channel, period. Not a dating service, not a penis penis vegina vegina channel or any other sort. I don't mind the (usual) off topic debates which is what makes the charm of the channel, but still - this is primarily #Uncyclopedia. Hence, someone acting like a troll on the channel, may as well be doing the same on the site. Having said that, I'd like an example of what you mentioned, I hardly believe an admin would take a personal feud on the channel and extend a ban over that in the site. As for the comparison with the Japanese wiki - I think it's not relevant. Different culture, different set of users, different number of users. Naturally the English version as the one available for the largest group of users, will suffer other problems than the more localized wikis. I don't think any other wiki extends so much help to its noobs - with the AAN program and a grup of friendly helpers we have here. All in all, although we're not growing as much as we used to, I think this is due to a phase we need to grow out off, and stop blaming constantly the people who spend, literally, day and night, cleaning and maintaining the place. ~Jewriken.GIF 10:54, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Last night, I got back from a night out with some mates to find Special:Newpages backed up again. I welcomed I think 4 new users, deleted somewhere in a range of about 20 articles, and must've ICU'd at least 5 or 10 more. But these are the things that we ops need the regular users for. You non-ops, all you have to do is get into Newpages with ICUing and QVFDing javascripts (I still use the ICU one) and go to town. Just putting all the one-liners, the vanity on QVFD is a huge help. That said, I think you guys can often be a bit too QVFD-happy. See a really lousy page that the contributor may have put a little effort into? ICU. If I delete a page that would've been improved later via ICU, I'm the one that gets messages one their talk page and has to provide all the links. If it was a page that was going nowhere anyway, it just gets deleted a few days later. Basically, here's what I'm saying. Regulars: Get into newpages, and only QVFD the absolute worst pages. All the rest, ICU. When in doubt, ask someone on IRC, or ICU it. It's a huge help. - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon Baloon.gif(Tick Tock) (Contribs) 14:17, Apr 19
Just to confuse the hell out of everyone, I'd also like to agree with a lot of what Mordillo says. Admin bashing is bad. (A lot of the problems are caused by over-zealous users who think QVFD count gets them into Uncyclopedia heaven.) The AAN program does indeed rock. We have problems many other wikis don't, both comedic and otherwise. Most of our admins are very professional in the way they carry themselves (though I don't think it's unfair to suggest that we aren't all perfect all the time). #uncyclopedia shouldn't be penis penis penis vagina vagina as often as it is. Cyberbullying, profanity, and vanity should all be deleted (though it often isn't if posted by a "known" user). Everyone agrees that utterly irredeemable shit should be deleted, but I think the assumption that we all know and agree what that is is naive. Even the cool people. Of course, I've been wrong before.--<<Bradmonogram.png>> 14:21, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Don't get me wrong, I never said we're perfect and we can't make wrong decisions. I think the chance that any admin/regular doing a mistake increases the more he handles the crapflood. Hell, I can say that I felt like a very liberal admin when I started, and nearly six months later I'm getting closer to Famine's way of handling things. Still, to shout Gevalt everytime the everyday running of the site rises into debate, is getting tiresome. ~Jewriken.GIF 14:56, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
