By a two vote majority, Uncyclopedia.wikia will now be hosted by Uncyclomedia. The vote conducted over the past week is now closed. A back-up of this site can now be authorised. An extension by Wikia/Fandom to continue to host this site after the 31st March 2019 until that has been done has been given to me by Sannse.--Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 10:05, March 24, 2019 (UTC)

Well, this is goodbye then. I would have stuck around if this had ended differently, but I'm glad to get this over with in any case. I have a life to live and xkcd comics to waste time on. I was never much of a humor writer anyway. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 21:15 24 March 2019

I hope you remember the last sentence among the characters in the movie Casablanca, Llwy. That this is the "beginning of a great friendship". Rhubella beach.jpg Rhubella Avatar-02.png Rhubella Marie, the rat sockpreppie preppiedits Rhubella Avatar-01.png 00:45, March 25, 2019 (UTC)
You have no idea what you're talking about. I was treated so badly by Lyrithya and Zombiebaron's clique that I had to leave for my own sake, and none of them have ever apologized. Their talk of "setting aside differences" is empty. I want nothing to do with them again, ever. They are not entitled to my time and energy. You are not entitled to your preferred outcome for a community you were never part of.
Romartus, I'm going to say again that this is a bad decision. The "majority" hinges on you deciding that Nigel Scribbler's vote doesn't count and Dill Kevlar's vote does, even though Nigel is eligible to vote and Dill is not. The end of the voting period was not clearly defined until today. It should be a tie between Lyrithya and Miraheze (9-9). But it's not like there's anything I can do at this point. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 01:06 25 March 2019
I did include Nigel Scribbler's vote = 8. I re-checked. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 09:16, March 25, 2019 (UTC)
Llwy, if I was ever rude/mean to you, I seriously am sorry. Unfortunately I have basically no recollection of much from that time to begin with, so can't be any more specific, but if there is anything I can help you to resolve now, or that we can discuss further that I should be, well, trying to avoid doing, please don't hesitate to contact me. I know I've done some very dumb things on both sites, and been needlessly combative in the past, so I am trying to do better. Athyria (talk) 23:57, March 25, 2019 (UTC)

Now that a consensus has been reached, what will happen to uncyclopedia.org? And would the people here mind if I imported the fixed up anniversary pages edited on .co? – roza (talk ☭ ctbslog) 16:29, March 25, 2019 (UTC)

Regards uncyclopedia.org, that decision rests with Wikia-Fandom if they want to give up that url. For the anniversary pages on unc.co, I don't see that as problem but is that your work Roza? --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 19:19, March 25, 2019 (UTC)
It is a combination of original material, and me editing and cleaning up the existing content already there. So far, I've done January through most of June I believe. – roza (talk ☭ ctbslog) 20:21, March 25, 2019 (UTC)
I'll bet that I would object to an import of Anniversary pages from .co. I overhauled the section completely at wikia for its entire year with often extensive additions and a thorough cleaning, with images added for each month as needed. If you bother to check histories, you will find that wikia and .co sections are fairly different from each other as well as from the old versions that were largely untouched for 8 years or so. The same is true of the Did You Know? feature for both sites.
Of course, if you have been around either site for a long time or are writer-only, you would likely be ignoring these sections. If that is true generally, then these sections are just boilerplate. My intent and I hope yours was to catch the attention of new arrivals. But there have been precious few other contributions to Anniversaries or DYK? even though many new contributions are of the "one joke, 500 character" variety that would do tons better as a line in either section.
Neither site is a mirror of the other at this point in time. This has been a good thing. Why make them mirrors of each other except to bore readers of both sites in attempting to concede a merger? Edit elements as you like, but I can do the same, too. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 23:34, March 25, 2019 (UTC)
It seems the work I've done on the anniversaries is fundamentally incompatible with yours. In the interest of avoiding an edit war, I'll leave them alone. I'm mostly disappointed that the work I've put on the .co site remains incomplete. – roza (talk ☭ ctbslog) 03:15, March 26, 2019 (UTC)
What Nigel said. We may be moving to a shared host but this version of Uncyclopedia retains independence and that goes for content as well. The deal remains that writers can share their own work on either site. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 17:29, March 26, 2019 (UTC)

Move stuff

So, to clarify, when you say 'to uncyclomedia', do you mean me and my folks, or carlb? Because we're all Uncyclomedia, you know. We all are. Athyria (talk) 02:19, March 26, 2019 (UTC)

I think the vote was clear. Your server Athyria aka Lyrithya.--Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 11:20, March 28, 2019 (UTC)

Usernames

So can usernames be retained and carried over to the new server? I don't really mind having to change persona if needed, but there have been constant impersonation attempts here which should be avoided. How does one then legitimately claim their "old" username? --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 06:40, March 26, 2019 (UTC)

I expect so, don't see why that would change. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 17:30, March 26, 2019 (UTC)
I don't know what happens to the troll account that was created in your name over at the Fork. I guess the sysadmin can re-assign it to you? --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 11:33, March 28, 2019 (UTC)
My first question is based on all of us signing up with Wikia/FANDOM, not Uncyclopedia specifically. I was recently told, and tested and found that if you are currently on the Uncylopedia site and activate an account, you are taken to FANDOM and not returned to Uncyclopedia. So the process is not Uncyclopedia-specific.
Whatever names are being used on the fork, spoofed or not, should have nothing to do with the spoon unless this site is specifically linked with .co. Unless you've already merged the two sites already? --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 20:33, March 28, 2019 (UTC)
There is no site merger. I also have an account at Fandom. I hadn't noticed this. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 21:58, March 28, 2019 (UTC)

Update

The database copy is now started, and should finish in a few days.

(Using this account because I logged in to unblock the other bot so they can run concurrently and forgot to log out first, as I'm not actually sure if I can log this out without logging the grabber out, now that that's going - I think that was implemented in a later version of mediawiki, but I don't want to risk it.) Where on Uncyclolyrithya?

Will the website move to a subdomain (old.uncyclopedia.co) or a subdirectory (/old/wiki/…) or what? Awesome Aasim 04:12, April 7, 2019 (UTC)

Separate domain. We'll try to post the new addy given enough time by the landlord. In any case, uncyclopedia.org should eventually still point to the new location. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 07:15, April 7, 2019 (UTC)
We're thinking wikia.uncyclopedia.co for now, unless you all can decide on a better idea and/or sannse or someone comes and yells at us about this.
Also, update: the move is going a bit badly and we've had to restart a couple of times because of... api weirdness? But we do still expect it should all be done in the next week. Haydrahlienne (talk) 16:14, April 8, 2019 (UTC)
The page Uncyclopedia:Sandbox failed to import and will require manual handling, if you care. Haydrahlienne (talk) 18:51, April 8, 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the update. I am not sure if we need the sandbox previous entries, if they were any good, I presume the entries there would have migrated to mainspace. Also, I don't see the point in retaining 'wikia' in the url address as that would be free advertising for Fandoom. We could always put a banner on the page to indicate where the site has migrated from. Perhaps we could be 'Uncyclopædia' - in honour of Encyclopædia Britannica? --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 09:10, April 9, 2019 (UTC)
I could point the uncyclopaedia.org domain (or whatever else is lying around here unused) to Lyrithya if you like. Perhaps classic.uncyclopaedia.org might be an option if the fate of uncyclopedia.org and uncyclopedia.de remains so uncertain? carlb (talk) 23:20, April 9, 2019 (UTC)
Sorry, æ is bad as it is not something a searcher would typically enter. "ae" is quite uncommon usage that way, too. I don't know what a search engine would think, but I think it might be the same story with "e" preferred. I would still take CarlB's offer of uncyclopaedia.org; cover all the bases.--Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 09:51, April 10, 2019 (UTC)
If the various "backlink checker" searches claim that there are a quarter-million links to *.uncyclopedia.info in various languages (such as Japanese), half a million links to uncyclopedia.org and half a million links to uncyclopedia.wikia.com (plus whatever else exists for (some other language).wikia.com the simple reality is that Wikia has taken something which is irreplaceable from an SEO standpoint (we'll never get all those links pointed to a new project, wherever it ends up) and simply flushed that straight down the loo. This wiki is closed. Buh-bye. It doesn't matter if we become uncyc.com, en.uncyclopedia.info, en.uncyc.org, whatever - as soon as it's a different domain, we're starting from zero and uphill against a severe duplicate content penalty. While we do have to allow for the worst case (where recovering the uncyclopedia.org domain is as long and difficult a battle as the arbitration battle for desciclopedia.org in 2008), at this point it's simply a question of having somewhere to hang our hat that doesn't look like wikia.uncyclopedia.co as various bits of that name may hit a lot of raw nerves in this community. carlb (talk) 17:46, April 10, 2019 (UTC)
I don't speak for anyone else, but I am looking further down the road and it will be more than just a placeholder. Using wikia is fine, but will that be tolerated by FANDOM? Just because they have rebranded doesn't mean "Wikia" or "wikia" has been abandoned. Has the underlying corporate name even been changed? I've asked FANDOM for clarification. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 04:01, April 11, 2019 (UTC)
It's a placeholder if it's only there until the fate of uncyclopedia.org is determined. That said, there's no SEO advantage to naming the site wikia.uncyclopedia.co instead of classic.uncyclopedia.co, en.uncyclopaedia.org or any of the other suggestions. Once we're not Wikia, we have no reason to want their brand anywhere in our name. carlb (talk) 05:08, April 11, 2019 (UTC)
I sent a query to FANDOM about the use of "wikia", which was replied to by Sannse by email:
Hi Nigel,
Wikia is a trademark, and still the name of the overall company. So it's definitely not something you can do with the URL/name. Sorry!
Regards,
-- Sannse
If you need her to post confirmation here, I'm sure you can ask via her message wall. Meanwhile, another name, please. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 10:41, April 19, 2019 (UTC)
No, we need you to come up with an actual usable alternative, as we've been waiting for the past week. The wikia suggestion was supposed to be terrible (though I think she's actually wrong, that we probably could argue an exception under the circumstances and get away with it, that's not the point) so that you'd come up with something less terrible. But you haven't. And now you are at our mercy. Athyria (talk) 16:20, April 19, 2019 (UTC)
Give the luminaries a bit of time to hash this out. Yes, time's a-wasting. In the meantime, there is undoubtedly a cost to registering the name. Please give us an address for kicking in a bit for that, assuming you can take PayPal. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 22:46, April 19, 2019 (UTC)
Sadly our other sysadmin is something of a professional and didn't go for my 'uncyclopedia.uncyclopedia.co' idea, so you'll find the new site at https://un.uncyclopedia.co/wiki/, except the mainpage is broken and so is a lot of other stuff because... uh, some combination of bad js, jumping 11 mediawiki versions, and who knows, but if we've set up login, go ahead and log in and try to fix stuff? I dunno, I'm being paid to start a war with my coworkers, not all y'all, so I should get back on that and stop drawing pictures of the same angry cat chewing its way out of sundry containers.
And again, in case this wasn't made clear: this is a temporary placeholder domain. Don't eat me. Athyria (talk) 15:43, April 20, 2019 (UTC)
Sorry, didn't mean to bite. Well, the mainpage has been a mess to understand and I don't know all the parts. I'll look in and see if I can do anything. Hopefully, the brain trust will have seen this and will agree on the name. Stay tuned. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 05:01, April 21, 2019 (UTC)
