Comment about the real facts[edit]

As I understand it, the real reason lemmings fall off cliffs has to do with their bumping into each other during mass migrations. Just a note for anyone who thinks they might be able to use this information to improve the article. Pentium5dot1 23:44, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Clarification: Upon closer reading of Wikipedia:Lemming, it seems that lemmings do intentionally use swimming as a method of transport. Falling off cliffs is not what kills them, as they usually arrange to fall into a body of water; the problem is most often drowning (exacerbated by sheer numbers).
