REDMOND, Washington -- Executive Stephen Pole has resigned from Microsoft. He appears to be a casualty of a boardroom reorganization. The company said Mr. Pole will leave after a "designated transition period." Two hours is usually thought a sufficient transition period to identify personal effects from one's desk drawers.

Mr. Pole came to Microsoft when it purchased Nokia and was the executive of the Devices, Services, and Theme Parks Group. But Terry Myerson has been named head of the new Windows, Devices, Movie Sequels, and Discount Groceries Group.

The company said there were no hard feelings, but Mr. Pole spelled his surname backwards in press releases, in an obvious effort to become anonymous and deny his former relationship with the software giant.

The hard feelings were on both sides, as the reorganization was announced by a person who only gave his name as "Satya Nadella."
