WASHINGTON, D.C. – Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson sought to assure critics of his department's recent expenditure on a "Blow Bin," a large storage facility for containing powdered cocaine that comes complete with a diving board, by explaining how poor people would pay for it. The Secretary seeks to pay for this structure by making Americans living on housing assistance put more of their income toward rent and giving public housing authorities the ability to impose work requirements on tenants.

Under current law, most tenants who get federal housing assistance pay 30 percent of their adjusted income toward rent, and the government kicks in the rest up to a certain amount. According to the HUD plan unveiled Wednesday, renters would be forced to forfeit all of their income towards rent and make the rest up with work. Any further requirements such as food and water would be added to the renter's bill at the Government Store, the new replacement for SNAP benefits, at 25% interest. This debt would then be inherited by the renter's next of kin, an idea which may have come from recent high-level talks between the United States and North Korea.

Though some members of Congress have expressed concern that the value produced by this work will largely be kept by the renters' bosses and ultimately used to pay for the Blow Bin with taxes, the Trump Administration has assured these Republicans that the rich will, in fact, be paying less in taxes, not more.
