SAN FRANCISCO, California -- Rapper and science fiction buff Kanye West has devised low-income housing based on the childhood home of Luke Skywalker on the Star Wars planet Tatooine.
Forbes reporter Zack O'Malley Greenburg described the prototypes as "skeletons of wooden spaceships." However, it is reported that West refers to the residences as "single-wides."
West has a meeting with potential investors in San Francisco, which is battling a massive homelessness problem. Reportedly, he even has several of these moguls on speed dial.
The last time a rap artist conceived a housing project was when Eminem proposed a neighborhood of tenements for Fargo, North Dakota, ideal for African Americans who elected to move there. Sadly, none did.
However, West claims to have worked out a way to mass-produce the "single-wides." He will be able to market them well below the $1,360,000 average price of a home, by solving the remaining small problem, San Francisco's labyrinthine land-planning and building codes. His space-faring homes will then line the Presidio, the Embarcadero, and Golden Gate Park, each with breathtaking ocean views. He says San Francisco will win renown for doing for housing what it has already done for search engines, social media, and wiki farms: provide massive public benefit with no thought of self-dealing. West plans to tell the business leaders there is potential for unforeseen synergy. "Drag $100 bills through trailer parks, there's no telling what you'll find," he says.
West's "single-wides" will include unique features aimed at the San Francisco lifestyle. There will be vending-machine style dispensers for Electronic Benefit Cards and clean hypodermic needles, and a flush toilet on every sidewalk.
West, however, has a caution for San Francisco city fathers (also city mothers, and city leaders of a boutique gender). He says, "Darth Vader doesn't like black people."
