RAYKJAVIK, Iceland -- A volcano erupted beneath an igloo in south Iceland, forcing the evacuation of a family of 7, as well as coastal cities, towns and villages around the world.
It was the first time since 1821 -- almost 200 years ago -- that the volcano under the Eyjafjallajokull family igloo has erupted.
Argo Eyjafjallajokull, head of the Eyjafjallajokull clan told CNN, “The ice began to tremble, so we fled the igloo just in time. It totally blew after that!”
The Eyjafjallajokull family igloo is located about 100 miles (160 km) east of the capital, Reykjavik. Or, rather, it was located there before the volcano erupted. That area is now a bubbling sea of cooked fish.
The country's civil protection agency did not immediately record any injuries or damage. But the heat from the volcano did melt the igloo as well as the glacier it was built on.
The melting ice caused global sea levels to rise 30 meters, according to data collected from the AGS (Al Gore Society) - that is based on measurements taken at the Hoover Dam.
CNN's New York office is 4 stories under seawater which has completely flooded the city. Other coastal cities around the world are also reported to have disappeared.
But in Iceland the Eyjafjallajokull family is safe and sound.
