VANUATU -- Several waterquakes within 10 minutes of each other rattled the South Pacific Ocean near Vanuatu Wednesday evening, the U.S. Oceanographical Survey reported.
The first quake - a strong magnitude 6.6 - was about 72 miles west of Isangel. The second one - eight minutes later - was a smaller magnitude 5.5 quake. The third quake was much smaller, with a pitiful magnitude of 2.1
There were no immediate reports of deaths, but falling coral is said to have injured a number of flounders, and several starfish were also hurt. A one-inch tsunami warning was issued just for fun.
Five waterquakes of magnitude 5.0 or above have been recorded in the area with a 24-hour period. Fish in the area are all highly concerned about the stability of the deep. Sea creatures that usually hide under rocks or corals have all come out into the open water, making them an easy target for predators.
