MrN: I don't have an opinion either way: whether it's deleted or not is for the community as a whole to decide. The last time I checked we were deleting articles on their quality, not the number of people who vote against it. Hea, Hindleyite... :-) Well, Mr Dilldos was trying to discourage people from abstaining on VFD in a forum he was involved in a while back I think. Kinda along the lines that if you have taken the effort to read an article and make a comment, you could as well have voted. Personally, if I'm not fussed either way, I tend to lean in the direction of a Keep vote. Also...   • Are ya suggesting that we should contact every user before making a VFD nomination? How long would we wait for a response? If the article gets deleted and he wants it back the admin can restore and move to userspace. It's not really "dead" ya know. I'm guessing it's on his watchlist and if his preferences are set accordingly an e-mail will be sent when the VFD tag is put on the page. ;-) You lost me with the "that couldn't have happened during the 90% of the time I am here?" line???   • I think we should contact every author who is both 1) active and 2) established before making a VFD nomination, yes. Nominations of pages by active and established authors account for probably less than a percent of VFD noms, so it's not like it would cause us any massive burden. I just think it's bad policy to be running around deleting active and established users' articles without soliciting their input first - it's exactly the kind of policy with the potential to drive our numbers down. I just know that if I came back from a five-day wikibreak to see that some of my work had been deleted by committee, I'd be fucking pissed and possibly disinclined to keep editing.   • I see where you are coming from Hyper, but I'm not sure it makes sense. If they want it restored to user space they can have it, so what's the problem? VFD is too slow as it is. The last thing I want to see is more process slowing it down. Where do you draw the line over who is "active", how long do we wait for a reply and how would we keep track of it all? Are some users more important than others? ... I think it's actually a lot higher than %1 myself... Also, what does "established" mean anyway, and why does it make a difference if they are "new" or not? Maybe you should consider starting a topic about this on the talk page. This is not really the place to debate this one... :-)
