Stereotype[edit]

I'd like this to become a feature. I'm slowing down on new stuff, but I'm going to still be polishing up some of my previous stuff. Pup

I'll try and write a review this evening--if not then, it may be a few days, though. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 16:29, November 18, 2009 (UTC)
No mad rush. When it gets done is when it gets done. Pup
Humour: 8.25 Though the beginning falls a little bit more on the dry, expository side, the "Beginner's Guide to Stereotypes" section is hilarious. Whenever someone is able to take the very, very tried concept of stereotypes and make it feel fresh and original while simultaneously keeping the article firmly in "stereotype" territory at the same time, you know you've got a good article on your hands.

What I liked:

  • The "Beginner's Guide..." section, obviously. Though the actual content in that section is very short, this is actually a good thing, because you don't beat the joke into the ground.
  • Your linking to "List of Stereotypes" twice.
  • Your inclusion of your sig puppy in the article, though I feel most readers won't know what the hell it's supposed to be.

What I (kind of) didn't like:

  • Like I said before, the first section is both dry and expository. Though it obviously isn't without it's share of jokes, it's still very subdued compared to the rest of the article. While on the one hand this is good because the beginning of the article "plays the straight man" without being totally jokeless, on the other hand it might scare away readers who were expecting a more traditional and/or offensive stereotype article. What I suggest to remedy this potential problem is to establish the joke used in the "Beginner's..." section in one of the earlier sections. A sentence to the effect of "The most skilled of stereotype experts can differentiate between the booming bass of the Lasonic Ghetto Blaster series from the precision of the Teufel Omniton line with relative ease," or something. However, doing that would probably ruin the "surprise" of the "Beginner's..." section created by not establishing the joke earlier in the article. Basically, there are obvious benefits and drawbacks of doing what I just suggested, and ultimately it's your call. If it were up to me, I would not do what I just suggested, but that's just me. Yeah.
Concept: 9 In terms of concept, this is very similar to my Biology article in that it's very much a pun/"Rickroll". You succeed where I failed in Biology, however, by incorporating humor and elements from stereotypes into your article, while my article has zero references to actual biology. Nice job.
Prose and formatting: 8.5 Excellent. There are no spelling or grammatical errors, and the little "wots" and "Achtungs" you through in immediately established what stereotype you were talking about in a humorous and unexpected way without breaking up the tone of the article. Some users would probably feel that there's a bit too much whitespace, but seeing as [[|Andrei Tarkovsky|I'm the king of whitespace]], I sympathize with what you're going for.
Images: 7.75 All the images complement the text really, really well, though no one image is funny in its own right except maybe for your puppy sig picture. One minor complaint I have is that some pictures have white backgrounds while some do not, though this is such a trifling and insignificant criticism that you shouldn't even considering potentially doing anything about it.
Miscellaneous: 8.75 What I would score this as a whole, as I very much enjoyed it.
Final Score: 42.25 Make whatever changes and revisions you're going to make, and then feel free to nominate this for VFH.
