Hi, I'm sorry if I should do the damper. But I heard from staff that those codes violate costumization policies so I don't think it will no longer autorized. Then should we remove them from MediaWiki:Wikia.css?--ΠλVƋX {disc} 07:01, July 7, 2018 (UTC)

Which ones in particular? --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 09:22, July 7, 2018 (UTC)
What, the whole thing? Surely some of it doesn't. Can you copy and paste what they actually said? ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 18:00 7 July 2018
it does violate the customization policy mainly because of the fact that the community header has custom css. And this is what they actualy said about this.--ΠλVƋX {disc} 18:35, July 7, 2018 (UTC)
It does? I took that part out. Do they mean the dropdowns, which have some minor custom styling that I figured they wouldn't object to? Do they mean everything except the Wikia header and footer being set to the font "sans-serif" which is only noticeable in Firefox on a Linux system? ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 18:39 7 July 2018
I have removed the community header class from the line specifying sans-serif. There is no longer anything custom about the header unless they really care that much about the dropdowns. I suppose it was my mistake -- I originally had body set to sans-serif and changed it to several specific classes to exempt the Wikia-branded parts. I had to go out of my way not to touch the parts they don't want touched. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 18:53 7 July 2018
Wait... mainly?? ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 18:56 7 July 2018
Something odd here. The quoted response, "it does violate the ...policy", begins in the middle of a sentence and is oddly worded. That locution is not typically used, save after the word "Yes", as in "Yes, it does violate ....". And that locution is typically only used in response to a question.
I'm curious. Did you go to them, point out the changes, and ask if they violated policy?
Just wondering. Snarglefoop (talk) 19:27, July 7, 2018 (UTC)
My view is that unless Weevil Fandoom are more specific what offends them thus, is to keep what has been done. Otherwise why is the css available to edit or change?--Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 13:00, July 8, 2018 (UTC)
Xactly. The warning is certainly appreciated, but we'll just have to wait and see if any official word or action comes down from on high. Stay the course. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 19:27, July 8, 2018 (UTC)
I agree -- let them come to us. Bringing it to their attention first makes it more likely they'll find something to object to. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 20:16 8 July 2018

They aren't going to edit that, but they said this today:

“The best way to think about it is to keep all of your customizations limited to '.WikiaArticle'. Do that and you will be fine”

So I guess to remove the others codes, since we can't costumize article title, edit button, etc. They seem to don't want to edit it, maybe should we then?--ΠλVƋX {disc} 17:30, July 18, 2018 (UTC)

The YouTube Wikia has custom CSS that affects the page title and edit button. If you think this kind of thing is such a problem, go to them and tell them to change it. Note that the customization policy mentions "Added decoration to buttons, boxes, backgrounds, fonts" (emphasis mine) as something that is permissible. Please stop contacting staff about this. I have done absolutely nothing to change their layout or branding, which is the spirit of the policy. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 19:40 18 July 2018
Honestly after that reply, I didn't reported nothing to staff. As BertH said certain of those costumizations aren't allowed, but as you can see youtube wiki have costumization CSS that affects the page title and edit botton. I agree of the fact that you didn't nothing to change their layout, but as you can see now, they recently dropped them on youtube wiki. I really appreciate how this skin is near to be vector, I'm not a fan of Oasis skin. But those are the rules. And again, I didn't reported nothing, both from this wiki and from youtube wiki. So now try to reply to DaNASCAT/TimmyQuivy since yesterday he messaged you about this anyway.--ΠλVƋX {disc} 19:10, July 21, 2018 (UTC)

Search box missing

... in FakeVector, that is. This happened within the last 12 hours or so. I apologize, but I drop this in your lap only because you are the one that can look under the hood and see what's going on. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 22:35, July 10, 2018 (UTC)

Aw darn. I'd noticed some other changes but not that. They've redesigned the Wikia header bar, and now the stuff at the top is messed up. The text on the edit button is too small too. Sorry this happened. See what I can do. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 22:44 10 July 2018
Should be more or less fixed now. I took the liberty of killing the avatar and notifications boxes because we don't need those anyway. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 01:42 11 July 2018
Quick service -- thanks!! Their fiddling is interesting to me. I understand revising the look every few years, but now a color change for the logo and a super-long expanded search box when the search doesn't go all that deep? Unuseful oddness to say the least. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 02:20, July 11, 2018 (UTC)

Excuse me? I know the page was inappropriate and must have been upsetting, but it was only there for a little over two and a half hours. I don't know what you would consider to be an acceptable response time. I'm not here 24/7 every minute. I'm also not the only admin here -- for future reference you might want to list pages you want deleted on this page so you can blame any and all of us for not getting to it soon enough. Fake Vector search engine

Is it possible to restore the search that provides an autocomplete to Fake Vector? (might be just Google search). I believe it was missing from Oasis for a short bit and restored there, and currently coexists with Compromise Skin. We had it for Fake Vector way back and it might actually have been lost before we lost the Fake Vector search box with the FANDOM banner change. The search we have now for Fake Vector really only keys on the first word of the requested search and there is no ordering for a best match. Thanks in advance! --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 06:06, July 18, 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, not sure how to do this at the moment -- need to look into it further. The existing search box is the one in the Wikia header. Is there a second search box I've overlooked, or is the existing one misbehaving for some reason? I couldn't find another one. By the way I finally fixed the header width issues that caused the user links to be off the page. I think. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 06:18 18 July 2018
Yes, "existing search box" is the one in the Wikia header, so perhaps out of your reach to see what is going on there(?) That works the way I want (greedy me) with the dropdown autocomplete suggestions that Google does. Just put it on the back burner for now, then. I can hardly wait for FANDOM to throw in the next spiffy thing to screw things up. Not.
User links are now just fine in Chrome. Firefox, too, but you already know that. Be aware that if someone adds a bunch of tabs, the right group led by "unwatch" overlaps the left group rather than just compressing. Embiggen the page and you can see what happens. Solution is to shrink the page a notch or two. But who else was crazy enough other than me to add two now-redundant tabs (or more)? Probably nobody, since there hasn't been squawking about it; so it's not an actual problem.
Also, thumbs up to the now-prominent blue control buttons. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 10:29, July 18, 2018 (UTC)
The tabs are annoying, I know. Especially so if you're on an admin account. Ideally some of them would be hidden in Vector-style dropdowns, but that requires far more knowledge of JavaScript than I have at the moment. Maybe Puppy could help. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 22:09 18 July 2018

Dark World again

This time i uploaded a fansign of the site. Its not an attack if its on myself. I don't plan on asking for this down. So if anyone blanks or trys to delete it then id like for it to be put back up. Thank you. The preceding unsigned comment was added by DarkWorldOfficle (talk • contribs)

I have no way to verify who you are. If you really are this person, then ok, but it is still more critical than funny, as well as short, and it is about someone who appears to be non-notable. I see you recreated it with the exact same text and it was deleted again. Please don't create it a fourth time. I also notice your other account is blocked for this. You don't want that to happen again, do you? Maybe try writing about something else? ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 07:52 19 July 2018

Recent Changes to MediaWiki:Wikia.css

We recently noticed some changes this community made to the MediaWiki:Wikia.css and unfortunately we must inform you that a number of them violate the customization policy, specifically everything mentioned in the "Changes to the local navigation, page header and article header" area. Please remove code that affects the page and article header and restore them to the default state, such as the H1 title size and the positioning of the Edit and Share buttons. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. --TimmyQuivy<staff /> (help forum | blog) 21:44, July 19, 2018 (UTC)

Why does that matter? Uncyclopedia should be exempt from some of this stuff as the intention was to imitate Wikipedia and not looking more like a generic Wikia site. I have been on this website site since 2008, I am also the longest serving administrator and bureaucrat here. Take this up with me on my email - Uncylopedia (active since 2005) was always treated differently in the past as it was recognised as a particular (or peculiar) brand. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 09:09, July 20, 2018 (UTC)
Our customization policy applies to all wikis in our network in order to create a more consistent experience wiki-to-wiki. We will not be exempting Uncyclopedia from following the guidelines outlined there which refers back to our Terms of Use. --TimmyQuivy<staff /> (help forum | blog) 19:27, July 20, 2018 (UTC)
Consistent for who? Also, who are the 'we'? Uncyclopedia has been treated differently in the past. We were the only wikia site to have our own skin. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 22:22, July 20, 2018 (UTC)
To answer the specific questions, consistent for all users across our network and 'we' being FANDOM. You are correct in that Uncyclopedia has been treated differently in the past, mostly because of the arrangements made when FANDOM began hosting the site and due to the site skin. But as the site skin is now reflective of the FANDOM default, we are holding the site to the same level we hold every other site on our network in that regard. The Customization Policy is in place specifically to allow a notable level of individual community uniqueness while making sure we meet a common user experience for our visitors and advertisers.-TimmyQuivy<staff /> (help forum | blog) 22:34, July 20, 2018 (UTC)
Why do you require a 'common user experience' anyway? You can have any colour car you want as long as it is Oasis skinned? Uncyclopedia's USP was to look like Wikipedia. The last time this site (and Wikia for that matter) got any interest outside a boardroom in San Francisco was the Greggs story (google it if you haven't heard about it). Also promises were made at the time that Uncyclopedia would not be changed. I also doubt advertisers would want to be linked to Uncyclopedia unless they are told their product will cause hair loss and the disappearance of teeth. :) --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 19:34, July 21, 2018 (UTC)

Admin status

Everything is probably coming at you at the wrong time, but please take a deep breath and take back your admin status. And take whatever time off you want if that's what you want. You don't have to be policewoman (where I feel you handled things pretty well) because others are on that job, too. You don't have to really do much of anything now, as you can see that certain existing admins remain inert. In any case, I think you'll want and need the credentials to poke around the site as I've found. So even if you decide in the end to go to total emeritus status, just keep your admin badge. It was hard-earned for getting us Fake Vector for which we are all very grateful. As for the junk above ▲ ▲, I suggest you get together with Romartus before responding or doing anything, even running away (joke). I know your imprint is on the work, but they should have gone through him first. This is just a pressure tactic. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 07:34, July 20, 2018 (UTC)

I have responded privately to Llwy but no secret that I regard her work here as incredibly important and giving us hope when all we got was sorrow from the WeEvils of Fandoom. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 21:20, July 22, 2018 (UTC)

Edit request

Unfortunately, I can't edit on this wiki. They restricted it to users, staff and helpers. The edit request is at The Bing Bong Song, where the information is outdated. I want to change this to that:

binglery -> bingly bonglery -> bungly boo -> boo!

Also remove the image. You may upload a new photo and add that. Remember, you are using a global account, so you can use this account for that wiki and every other wiki. 18:45, July 22, 2018 (UTC)

You need to ask FANDOOM Wikia Community Central to make this request. Bing Bang Go There! --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 21:17, July 22, 2018 (UTC)

I'm back

For the benefit of anyone watching here. There's no new section link on your own talk page. I guess they figured you didn't need one and they were really smart by removing it. Anyway, hi folks. Looks like I was gone over two weeks -- wow. I was planning on coming back earlier, but then I got sidetracked and also had to deal with a real life issue.

I left because of the site CSS argument. I desysopped myself so I wouldn't have to deal with it, pretty much. I don't find being an admin all that fun in general either, but who does, you know? You're taking out the trash. At first I thought I was going to leave for good, but I realized I didn't want to. I did need a break, though. At this point I would be happy to have my rights back. I'd prefer to also have rollback just in case because I can't readd it, but it's not terribly important. Funny, when I removed rollback just now it didn't say I removed my rights -- it just gave me "Permissions errors". And it turns out nobody's edited Wikia.css anyway despite the dire warnings. Go figure.

I see Wikia has changed the header around again and it no longer works properly. I'll have to do something about that. Joy. The whole Fake Vector thing was getting to be a time/energy sink as well. I wish we had somebody other than me working on it. We're not very well staffed here. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 19:22 8 August 2018

I have restored your rights Llwy-ar-lawr. Welcome back to the Bosom of the Spoon. Sorry, I can't help as regards the tech stuff. Hi, good to imagine seeing you again. The hit squad is pretty good at keeping up 24/7 so I don't think you should feel obligated to spend time with that. As for FANDOOM, Romartus must be the one to deal with them; he's good at it. Also, apologies for making it look like I'm trying to pile all the nagging little fixes on you, but you are all we got for the moment (tag!). You should pat yourself on the back because Fake Vector as a whole works great; I'll have to push myself along to be an evangelist for it. Just tackle Fake Vector things as you see fit/as extra time allows as you just know FANDOOM will continue to break things later anyway. You could just do a little editing or writing or even just reading and/or catching up with talk. July had been quiet (as usual) but not dead. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 21:28, August 8, 2018 (UTC)

Fake Vector and its cousin

I got impatient waiting for the Skin Choice page to be completed, so I dood it. If you have some time to waste, have a look at it and check to see that I haven't made any major lies or errors. I am messaging several unenlightened users to be more-or-less beta testers to check to see my instructions make sense. Then I will use the announcements feature (the bell at page top) in a while to publicize the page. I will continue to molest newly minted writers with other and will present Fake Vector install instructions.

I got held up taking Fake Vector to sista sites (problems with the French site), with a couple translated/Google translated posts made up so far. So that's next on the list. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 04:07, August 11, 2018 (UTC)

Looks ok to me. I left a comment on the talk page. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 20:06 12 August 2018

::Thanks! I just noticed that this talk page is now rendered in Oasis (I think), within the last few hours. Checking, so are user pages (in Compromise skin, maybe) and the search result pages (definitely Oasis) based on the Oasis top bar. I hope it's you working on the site.--Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 00:24, August 13, 2018 (UTC) Sorry for the scare – ignore this. Thanks for getting back to me and for your help. In the end I was able to password reset the 'Un-Billsheppard' account and log back in again (not sure why that didn't work last night). It's nice to be back, it's been a while but I see my adopter, Zana_Dark, has vanished and and Uncyclopedia seems to have another version else where?! What is going on..... I've been gone too long, clearly.....

A fork of this site was set up in January 2013. They intended to move the community there, but the decision wasn't made openly and a lot of people stayed here. Since then the culture of the two sites has diverged greatly: here we have stuck more closely to parodying Wikipedia, whereas there they are more interested in "lowbrow" humor and socializing. It's also less active than here. I recommend sticking with this version, but use your own judgement. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 00:12 8 September 2018

Our Lord

The doge pic post sent to QVFD. I moved the fragment(?) to writer User:Endmysufferingplease's userspace rather than deleting it, leaving a message about it. I'm cruel but not that cruel, kinda, sorta. And the writer is a newbie. They should get a lot of slack and some TLC, as was given to me, even by Spike (if that's believable).

Note that User:PopePoppin'FreshI likes to throw out fragments and never completes them, clearly on the theory that someone else can fill out the article. I sure can't as the jokes are one-shot dead ends. Romartus has added to some but none ever seem to exceed 3500 characters, so it's not a true collaboration as far as I can tell. The never-touched fragments have been put into Pope's userspace, too, except for one or two totally hopeless starts. I have yet to see something emerge from Pope's userspace since then, but we'll see. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 04:34, September 9, 2018 (UTC)

We heard from him in Forum:Site CSS and Javascript are broken, so yes. Question from NancyDS

hello Llwy-ar-lawr, I'm going to ask you, how to change the main logo of your skin, Fake Vector? --NancyDS (talk) 14:11, December 2, 2018 (UTC)

Hi Nancy. If you want to change the logo, you can add this to your common.css:
.wds-community-header .wds-community-header__wordmark a {
	background-image: url(filepath);
replacing "filepath" with the full URL of the image you want to use. Hope that helps. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 04:14 3 December 2018

Some people on a certain site have suspected that I am you, in that, I am somehow a sock of you. As an admin on this certain site, this makes working with the other admins potentially difficult, given the shared history and all. I know this is silly to ask but could you confirm that I'm not you to settle the matter? Much thanks. – roza (talk ☭ ctbslog) 10:05, December 15, 2018 (UTC)

No, I am not you. I haven't actively edited there in years, and there's almost zero chance I ever will again. They ought to know that. Sorry this is happening. I hope my reply isn't too late for you. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 10:13 18 December 2018
No it's fine, thank you. A few of the other users there tend to misrepresent my intentions at times, they see the changes I make to the site or our discord server as attempts to provoke drama and stir shit. Like this one time, when I tried to set the #general channel to sfw, they implied I was you (said something like, "Oh remember when Llwy tried to censor our porn how familiar" and so on), they had half a dozen other channels to post porn, like the first thing someone sees shouldn't be rule 34 of Hank Hill. Well anyway, thanks for confirming that and sorry for venting. – roza (talk ☭ ctbslog) 20:50, December 18, 2018 (UTC)
Sounds like the place hasn't improved any since I left. They accused me of "drama" too and said another person was my sock (he wasn't, of course). I don't think these accusations are in good faith. Me posting here doesn't actually prove anything, but a proper behavioral investigation would surely demonstrate that we are not the same. No chance they'd do that -- they probably don't even know how. However, I understand your beliefs changed significantly in the recent past, and you once voted to delete an article with the reason "Autism". Anyone familiar with the circumstances of my departure should realize I would never say anything like that.
No need to apologize. I like to complain too, see.
BTW I've just found out who you're named after. Interesting. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 01:39 19 December 2018

Something I noticed over the Fork could be useful here now. When there are no new articles to feature, is there a way we front page a feature from years past in a simple way? Thanks. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 22:42, December 19, 2018 (UTC)

I don't know how their system works, but I'm digging around. They have templates called featuredarticle/default and lastfeature that seem to have something to do with this, which are included in their version of {{featuredarticle}} -- you could try looking at the source of those to get an idea of what's going on.

Bookmark this if you would and have a short look at this on a rainy day. See if you can quickly find and fix the bad behavior here. In full-width, you can see that the text is displayed narrower than the page. It is the fault of the Scots template

but I can't grasp/don't understand what could be doing the deed there, nor adding all that padding after it. I find no hidden code elsewhere.

Also, this is a problem anyway as it is fixed width and will not display properly without a full-width FakeVector page. Not expecting you to waste a lot of time on this one as it is not a commonly used template at all. I will try to rewrite it sometime later if you decide to give this a pass. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 05:12, January 28, 2019 (UTC)

Many thanks for the fix! Send the bill to Romartus. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 06:02, January 28, 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, I fixed the whitespace but I'm not sure what to do about the fixed width. It's got hardcoded pixel sizes in it, and it doesn't work without them. It's a tricky design to work with because of the image used as the border, which has to be positioned behind the text. The older version before Goldfishrock's changes didn't have these problems, so we could always give up and revert to that. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 06:06 28 January 2019
Actually I went ahead and reverted. There's no way to use that image as the background and not have the template be fixed-width, unless you don't mind using overflow: hidden and cutting off part of the image and the text some of the time, which looks broken. Things like this should be done with the CSS border-image property, but MediaWiki doesn't allow inclusion of images in inline styles. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 06:21 28 January 2019
I can easily live with this. I was going to find an existing plain template design and just plop the gif and text into it. Having the tartan square makes the box oversize and is really not needed. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 06:31, January 28, 2019 (UTC)

Factual and Funny

That's how you have to look at White people and Paula Deen together to see how you can vote for or against it, the original guy who wrote it was trying to sound more racist but the objective elements are where the funny is with it. Look at Illinois and Florida to see the context. If that makes sense. Not too far fetched if the sources are not fabricated. See Fantard for the references to the funny of that one. In Illinois, the more factual it is -- the funnier it gets and even cringe worthy in parts. --Factfinder510 (talk) 19:50, March 6, 2019 (UTC)--Factfinder510 (talk) 19:50, March 6, 2019 (UTC)

I've read Paula Deen. The truth can be funny, but here I'm not seeing it. Remember humor is subjective, and the way you present the facts also matters. It's also better for articles to stand alone rather than depending on each other. I see you've put some effort into interlinking these, but the reader shouldn't have to rely on that to understand the humor. Of course that's my opinion, and you're free to seek another one, though you may have noticed we're kind of tied up at the moment. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 21:04 6 March 2019
The others are seeing it though; one of the leaders was impressed with the expansions. The Interlinking is part of how Illinois works though -- one hand washing the other right. I noticed some got a kick out of the Paula Deen treatment, the humor is born in the Midwest especially so and when you know the jokes are there -- you have to see the visuals to get the references. The jokes are in the footnotes in parts. Encourage others to vote on White people for the informative value alone as the sources were taken from many as well as UnNews too.--Factfinder510 (talk) 02:08, March 7, 2019 (UTC)
Romartus said you put an impressive amount of work in, which is true, but he didn't give you feedback on the quality. New editors here don't get as much help as they used to. Too few of us, not enough time. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 07:56 7 March 2019

That one hit some by total surprised at the treatment as Luke Perry also saw a more disarming element. If you look into the role he played in 1996 you will go "Oh My God! What!" That was what I was going for when I revised this too. --Factfinder510 (talk) 19:00, March 13, 2019 (UTC)

Please follow the rules

Llwy-ar-lawr, Romartus asked me to keep an eye on the voting for what happens to Uncyclopedia. He said votes were grandfathered in, and nobody disagreed with that. I'm being objective here; I just struck a vote that agrees with what I want, but I have to play fair. I ask you to do the same. Please do not violate the agreement we have with staff and the responsibility Romartus handed temporarily to me. Admin DAP Dame Pleb Com. <font="Times New Roman">Miley <font="Times New Roman">Spears (talk) 01:26, March 14, 2019 (UTC)

Llwy-ar-lawr, removing another editor's comments, whether an admin or not (which I am), from a discussion like this not only violated Uncyclopedia policy, it violated Fandom ToU which are rules we have to follow.

I suggest you go read them now before you make any more edits. By rights, you should be blocked for doing that, but I don't want to give an impression of an admin war. But please read the rules we are all required to follow and do not do that again. Admin DAP Dame Pleb Com. <font="Times New Roman">Miley <font="Times New Roman">Spears (talk) 01:41, March 14, 2019 (UTC)

The rules say:
  • No I.P. voting permitted. No account created here after 25th February 2019 will be able to vote either. This means that no IP editors are allowed to vote and no one can vote from an account created after 25 February 2019, which means 26 February 2019 or later.
  • Must have five edits to this site before 26 February 2019. This means any time before 26 February 2019. It does not mean in 2019. It does not mean in 2018. It could be any time at all, even before 5 January 2005 if that were somehow possible.
  • Active editors on the fork must have five edits to this site between 1 January 2018 and 26 February 2019. This means active editors on the fork must have five edits in this time period. Not editors who are not active on the fork; they are only subject to the restriction before this.
The rules do not say voting is restricted to currently active editors on this site. I intended to include inactive established editors. I said so. You removed my comment saying this. Sannse may have slightly mischaracterized the rules, but she agreed to them as written. They are written as I say above; check the page. You are the one not following the rules and making stuff up. Whether it's due to inattention or malice, I don't know, but you are. If you have a problem with the rules, you should say so, not enforce your personal unwritten opinions or act like this is all my fault and I'm some evil control freak pushing an agenda. Better yet, you should have objected back when these rules were actually discussed and agreed on. You got the emails and said nothing. Your conduct is disruptive and unbecoming. If you can't refrain from behaving in this manner, I suggest you step out.
About removing comments: I put yours back. You did not put mine back; I had to do that myself. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 01:52 14 March 2019

Oasis already works this way. To do an autocomplete in a search and then to be taken to a search list is stewpit. I'd much prefer the Google/Google-style search though I'd rather have the internal link autocomplete feature in writing, if that's the reason for the status quo. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 05:27, March 16, 2019 (UTC)

Missing articles

I found that 2 worthwhile articles that I saved just in case, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Amy Poehler, were not transferred. Both were recorded on May 2 at 23:07 and 22:42 respectively, both written by the same IP (‎) with no contributions by anyone else AFAIK. So they may be part of the question about differences (70K?) between FANDOM content and what was actually uploaded.

In any case, I only "saved" these two as being worthy of that after the upload of May 1 just in case the FANDOM site was abruptly shut down. So this is a FYI, not a reupload request. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 01:31, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

I have both those articles, but they're only on the home computer system, not up here. This version isn't fully up to date. The plan is still to keep saving recent data to the version at home until the Wikia site is closed, then bring the new stuff here. Sorry, I don't know a better way to go about this. I can get that done fairly quickly when the time comes, though.
I think the missing edits are deleted. Edits to pages deleted in January 2006 and earlier seem to be impossible to get with the script. When I tell it to start with such a page, it ignores it. There are around 25k deletion log entries from that period, and if each represents an average of 3 edits that could easily make up the discrepancy. I threw together a screenscraper that saves deleted edits as HTML pages, and it's running right now. It's not very good but should retrieve a significant amount of what we want. I'll worry about inserting it into the database later. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 02:58 9 May 2019

YO -- time's up! Gotta take this live. The cats are standing around meowing, they've heard the can opener, and they don't understand why there's no food. So get the scrapings in place, switch the databases, scrape over the new scrapings, and turn on uploads, not necessarily in that order. Judging by the lack of activity I see in Top, the import into the alternate database has bitten the big one again. We need a schedule -- when can we throw the knife switch and see if the monster sits up? Snarglefoop (talk) 19:11, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
In case nobody's explained this, the poor innocent server we're running on here is currently doing a massive database import into a second copy of the site (or is it a third, I've lost count), which may or may not be causing it to bog down a bit, and once that's done, the current (live) copy will have its recent edits dumped as XML and imported into the newly updated (not yet live) second copy, and then we'll take the site offline briefly so the folders can be renamed to put the second copy online (and it will Just Work, for sure), and that is how the recent changes from Uncyclowikia will be pulled in, along with a pile of historic stuff. And by "we" I mean LLwy-ar-lawr, unless the server throws up all over the floor, in which case I'll grab a mop and try to help clean it up. Snarglefoop (talk) 19:19, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
Import is going again. Forgot to put it on a VNC desktop. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 19:24 10 May 2019
Your Forum mentions the risk of users walking on photo filenames that were already used, resulting in collisions during the process of restoring them. At the current level of activity, this seems to be a more minor problem than the problem created by disabling uploads entirely, namely, we have a shiny new site and everyone has to sit and wait (cf. Snarglefoop's cats).
Separately, the Site Notice and Anon Notice should be pared down. (I tried to cut away the bit about the username migration two years ago, and the runaround I got from Wikia on removing text I had inserted myself, convinced me there was no way forward with Wikia Uncyclopedia.) I would enjoy it if, instead of just deleting the obsolete stuff about the GDPR, we turned it into a satire with perhaps a veiled point about Wikia using a legal problem as an excuse to (further) castrate its Admins.
And still separately, certain pages that are here are inaccessible using redirects because the system complains that "index.php" is not here. Spike sockpuppet (talk) 21:03, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
Yeah... :( I've enabled uploads. Not sure quite what to put in the site notice. index.php not here? This wiki doesn't have the same URL structure as the old one -- instead of, we have Is that it? Redirects seem to work for me. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 23:09 10 May 2019

But this website claims not to know Spike's email address. I don't believe this, as it knows the email address for this account (which is the same address). Rather, something else is screwed up. Spike sockpuppet (talk) 01:13, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
The Spike account here is a "stub" user, meaning it was created with information from other tables (by populateUserTable.php) and consists only of a username, user ID and edit count. Spike sockpuppet has an email address because you logged in with it. If you want a new password, you can either log in with your regular password and pick a new one when it prompts you, or create a new account and have it merged with Spike. I could also try inserting the email information for Spike sockpuppet into the user row for Spike, but that might not work. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 01:45 11 May 2019

The Backup Story

This doesn't tend to get talked about much (until there's a head crash), but I thought it might be worth mentioning that we do, indeed, have a backup story. Right now, in the middle of the Diaspora, there are, like, 17 dumps of the site in at least 4 countries, so backups aren't a concern yet -- but in the future they will be.
We plan to put the MariaDB database on an LVM partition (it's not at the moment, my bad) and that should make it possible to snapshot the database (along with the whole partition) with only a very brief outage. (LVM makes a COW copy, so all it takes is the time to set the bits.) And then, at our leisure, we can compress the snapshot of the database and ship it offsite.
Images will probably just be rsync'd to another site. There's no point in compressing them (they're already mostly compressed) but they're also a large collection of relatively small files, so rsync should work well for them. Snarglefoop (talk) 20:14, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

CoW to me will always be Choice Of Words. Now, LVM...I don't know, "Louis Vuitton Maternity"? Spike sockpuppet (talk) 01:22, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
<grin> Copy-on-Write, and Logical Volume Manager. The two together make it possible to make a magical "copy" of a file system which isn't actually a copy at all -- the only pages which get copied are the ones which are changed after the "snapshot" is made. And the cutover to LVM is done (as of about 10 minutes ago, when the physical copy of the annoyingly large partition completed), so at least in principle it's possible to take a snapshot of the site without shutting down the server or locking the database. The idea is that such a "snapshot" is ephemeral -- it's OK for a few hours, but since it's the same bits it's not a backup itself. However, since the snapshot is "frozen", it can be backed up without worrying about updates to the site which take place during the backup (which could take a couple hours). (Where we ultimately store such snapshot backups remains to be determined.) Snarglefoop (talk) 06:49, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
I admit I don't understand a tenth of the tech talk here but what I can see is a nearly fully functional Uncyclopedia. I will post a message on the old Unc for the user base there and inform Sannse that Fandoom can close the site. I will ask for a redirect here until the time has been officially handed over. I'm a bit less trusting. Even if Wikia doesn't use the name to host a competing Uncyclopedia, they may use it to deliver misleading claims that the project is defunct or use it to drive traffic to other, non-Uncyclopedia content. Wikia has already refused to provide a redirect: and are examples. The same question has come up in Uncyclopedia-related projects in other languages, with the same level of non-cooperation.
There has also been no progress for more than a month on so I'm not optimistic at the current time. carlb (talk) 19:39, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

I've been working on DidYouKnow for some time and have been only updating Template:DYK; that one works. I don't know what this is supposed to be, either. It might be a mirror of edits to Template:DYK, since It seems to show fixes/edits to new entries and juggling entries around (because its randomization schemes aren't really random). It shows edits by me but the dates don't necessarily coincide with edits of Template:DYK. I note that the first entry about "flantastic" on DYKdb was auto-updated somehow(?) many months ago, probably after I moved it to that position in Template:DYK. The same first entry about "flantastic" was just deleted last week or somesuch. So it's just not auto-reporting any more(?), or does so periodically.

There is also a Did You Know. It's just a list, its only purpose seems to be to provide a complete list of Did You Know entries for users to consult to avoid duplication. IMO it's pretty worthless in that respect.

Like a lot of other things, there is no documention anywhere about what was what with DidYouKnow. It was a long strange trip in trying to figure out how DYK worked and even where the templates were. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 03:17, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Oh, and while I'm here, how do you donate to Uncyclopedia?  EStop Press here for Room Service 16:47, 6 July 2019 (UTC)

I haven't set up any kind of public donation interface yet, but I can send you a PayPal address. As for consciences, I can't help you there. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 19:01 6 July 2019

Please do, the email address given on this site is still active.  EStop Press here for Room Service 07:12, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

Front Page Features

Hi Llwy. I worked out how to change the template but how do you create the featured article stamp now? Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 18:40, 6 July 2019 (UTC)

I made a mistake -- there should be a line telling you the feature code to add at the bottom of {{featuredarticle}}. It's there now. If you're using the gadget I mentioned, it's done automatically if you use the button and form. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 18:55 6 July 2019
...and I've just found out the button doesn't work. I'll have to fix that. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 00:01 7 July 2019
Works now. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 05:19 7 July 2019

I didn't notice that vandalism, but went beyond your edit and rewrote the entire Intro. In fact, the entire article has no theme, apart from writing Randumbo that sounds encyclopedic to a 12-year-old. However, I have nothing in particular to say about atheism (though I've put a few lines of attack in the Intro that might be expanded on). Therefore, it's your move.

Our attention was probably called to this article by the recent vandal taking aim at the site's nudie photos. Here as elsewhere, I find the nudity adds no humor to the page and is not necessary. Compare my illustration of Objectivity. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif10:48 16-Jul-19

"absolutely no absolutes" and "WHAT" were both added in this edit. I'll see if I can do something further, but I may instead be fixing something else. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 22:55 16 July 2019

Feature Link Page

Hi Llwy. I was trying to change the feature on the front page but went down the wrong rabbit hole. See here : The link to (feature) (remove) takes you to the old template. Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 11:56, 10 August 2019 (UTC)

Sorry, I hadn't accounted for these links. I'm trying to find a solution. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 22:24 13 August 2019

Welcome template

I saw that you post-edited me welcoming various new users, manually copying {{Welcome}} into their user talk page to avoid a technical glitch. Now, {{Oh Dear}} worked correctly, while {{Welcome}} did not, so I copied the code from the former to the latter. In particular, I removed a subst: enclosed in a conditional, leaving {{BASEPAGENAME}} in order to greet the new user by name. Did this once on the initial greeting, and again on the example page name from his userspace. Now you simply begin the user talk page with {{Welcome}} and tildes to sign. It is unlikely to produce good results if used on a page other than a user talk page, and if you call up the template itself, it greets username Welcome, and I don't care. If this change breaks something else, please post-edit. The advantage to typing the template name, rather than copying in the template, is that it picks up changes made to the welcome message in the future, as signing with a signature file does (though of course it doesn't call the user's attention to those changes). Candid found us and logged in on 5-Oct, claiming to be a reincarnation of CandidToaster and offering a method involving Discord by which this might be verified. Can you verify and rename him, if he is the same guy? Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif02:02 10-Oct-19

I entered the fork's Discord channel as suggested, but I don't know what I'm supposed to see there. I also haven't made myself able to rename and merge users -- I could, but I don't see the need because it can be done by bureaucrats. I believe Simsilikesims and Carlb are also there. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 22:05 10 October 2019

Thanks; I've now reported this to Candid, in case he wants to pursue it.

Separately, it has been months since I got User:Spike/watchgadget-v3.js to work here and I don't remember what I did. I took a copy of another Bizzeebeever script at User:Spike/patrol.js and applied your fix to change a Wikia filename for a graphic. But the Mozilla web console is not throwing off error messages (though it does do so based on some system scripts involved in the page load). Are you able to look at this and identify the changes needed? Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif22:28 10-Oct-19

I see you playing with this! Feel free to edit the JavaScript file in my userspace. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif00:59 20-Oct-19

Thank you!

Thank you for fixing the feature. I tried to fix it this morning, but couldn't quite tell what was wrong, and ran out of time. Also, you may want to think about archiving your talk page again sometime soon. -- Simsilikesims(♀GUN) Talk here. 02:50, 11 October 2019 (UTC)

Upload size limit

Special:Upload says there is a file size limit of 2 Mb, which is preventing me from uploading an article narration (3.2 Mb). I could reduce the fidelity, but why don't you increase the limit instead? Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif00:18 9-Jan-20

Done. This was a trickier one, as it required changing PHP variables. It should now be possible to upload files up to MediaWiki's default limit of 100MB. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 03:14 9 January 2020

Thank you! Now can you add MP3 as a permitted file type, as it was at Wikia? (Can my old stuff be heard even if it couldn't be loaded?) (MP3 and OGG are both mentioned in the blurb above the Upload form as recommended file types for audio.) Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif03:48 9-Jan-20

The default is pretty restrictive. I've added all the non-default file types allowed at Wikimedia Commons, which includes those. This doesn't have any effect on existing files; they should work anyway. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 04:32 9 January 2020

Thanks again, but three attempts to upload got me two cut connections and I think one 417 413 error. Is our server prepared for a 3.2 Mb upload? The error could be on my end. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif11:52 9-Jan-20

No, it's not you. I just tried to upload a 3.7 MB XCF file and got "413 Request Entity Too Large". I'll have to look into this further. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 12:28 9 January 2020
I believe it's fixed now, as I was finally able to upload File:Weird.xcf after setting an Nginx variable. By default it limits uploads to 1 MB. Not nice. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 19:15 9 January 2020

Thanks again, again! now uploaded. I have not begun recording UnNews Audio again because first I'd have to re-do the bracketing audio, which gives the URL of the website, and I don't think we're at .ca forever, eh? Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif02:49 10-Jan-20

Nice tool. However, I wouldn't bar page titles over 50 characters long. Articles occasionally break the encyclopedia rules by having absurdly long titles. I prefer my humor to take effect after a bit more thinking on the reader's part, and such pages need help like a nav-template because no one is going to type their names, but you'd exclude too much with this rule.

Separately, I think Wolvy is getting bored with us. He can't see if he's riling anyone up and he's not doing much damage. It's taking him more time to do it than it took me to undo it, as predicted in UN:VIP. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif19:01 11-Jan-20

I wasn't sure about that one either. I added it in response to not just Wolverhampton (whose pages were over 100 characters) but the tendency of spambots to use overly long titles. AbuseFilter already keeps all the spam out, but it bothers me that this is the only thing reliably stopping it, especially when it chases away real people. Blacklists inevitably don't have everything, and QuestyCaptcha is readily cracked, as we've seen here and on Wackypedia. (This was a four-day flood of Greek spam, which hit here too.) Even questions much better-constructed than mine have been cracked. It's a hard problem.Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 20:24 11 January 2020

Abuse filters

I've edited several of the filter names to use brackets on those that are [Disabled] so it's easier to see at a glance the filter strategy. Also edited 24, which you've been working on, so it doesn't tell the spammer exactly how to work around it.

25 says "Suspicious usernames" and your comment says that you disabled it relying on Titleblacklist. But that's page names, not user names, right? Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif13:21 12-Jan-20

Okay. 24 has been open and transparent because it does the same thing as this public filter on Meta-Wiki. No harm in hiding it, though, as I never see false positives. TitleBlacklist can be used to block usernames if the expression is preceded with User:. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 17:37 12 January 2020

They might seem the same code elsewhere but they cannot determine elsewhere that Uncyclopedia is using the rule. It's always better not to disclose that, You have been blocked from doing what you want to because: You didn't say, Mother, may I? Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif17:45 12-Jan-20

True, and it makes it seem less widely-used and crack-worthy than it really is. OTOH I doubt they would ever visit us and notice. The spam software indiscriminately pursues any MediaWiki site it can get its digital paws on, with seemingly no human input about where to go. Not that one can rely on them being not smart, of course...
That said, I plan on keeping the message that shows up for blacklisted usernames. Not explaining that is surely too offputting for humans. I hope to remove the blacklist entry, though. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 18:50 12 January 2020
