Wikia vows to close Uncyclopedia[edit]

Admin[edit]

On the Fork, they're nominating all active admins and bureaucrats here for the same position there. If you sign up there, you can get nominated! I know there was a fake Spike, so you'll have to use a different name. Admin DAP Dame Pleb Com. <font="Times New Roman">Miley <font="Times New Roman">Spears (talk) 20:10, March 1, 2019 (UTC)

The fake Spike was SPIKE in all caps. The name "Spike" is still available. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 01:19 2 March 2019

You may have to revote[edit]

Voting options have changed on Forum:Hosting options for Uncyclopedia (wikia). Because the set up of the vote has been changed, some people, including possibly you, need to know, You may have to recast your vote for it to count. Voting will end on Saturday, 23 March 2019 (check vote for time zone; currently it's set for Hawaii). NOTICE: If you respond to this directly, it will actually take you to the template I used for this message, so please don't respond directly. The technical reason for this error is I don't know what the hell I'm doing. (If someone wants to fix the template for me, go ahead.) Uncyclopedia rises from the ashes, here[edit]

Uncyclopedia:Active Admins[edit]

You might re-list yourself here. If you prefer not to be bothered by users at this time, you could perhaps enter your username without making it a link. --Nigel Scribbler sig2.png (talk) 21:10, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, I shall re-list myself. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif21:29 17-May-19

thumb around[edit]

This needs to be on Guiness Book of Word Records, Nigel should do his homework more before taking a dig about College of DuPage. They're in public turmoil right now.

Baptists saw an injoke treatment and Southern Baptists also saw a few touches played up. The article White People you might be asking where she got the item from for this too as we have a unique idea coming and I am planning to bring some family on for the presentation of this. The location we're cutting her loose on is Mummy but we need clearance to upload photos.--Factfinder (talk) 01:12, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

??? Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif14:38 20-May-19

Did some work on Pensacola; that became a pet project and the elements show up in the images and screen caps. Do your research on Crab Invasion of Florida and it got 18,500,000 views look you want to ban me because I was helping someone do research on a piece that will be published from that month. Some articles need to be expanded in recent events, Florida is one of those that commands a 4000 word article at least with the recent events with the crabs. Go look on Fox News 32 and the video well will be sent to Reddit.com.

So show that to some of the other admins and tell me Florida deserves to be expanded and done right, it doesn't need the treatment that White People or Fan Fiction both have but close enough. Pensacola saw 3000 words total as an expansion because of the recent events with Andrew Tuck. This is Evolution starting at him too. I was trying to get the article about Tuck to you but they wouldn't allow the link. I apologize for the external link on this post because Professor Kara Cooney of UCLA is one of the sources on this one. --Factfinder (talk) 15:22, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

No, I want to ban you because no one can get it through your thick head that this is a humor website and not a place for you to flog your research. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif15:29 21-Aug-19

The funny appears when it's true. Think about that one, when it's too outlandish to make up do you want to lie to people when you make them laugh? --Factfinder (talk) 15:45, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

Spambots[edit]

I created (repurposed) Special:AbuseFilter/24 to stop spambots based on the common pattern of using double <br> tags instead of normal line breaks. SherlynHayner27 had already run into it before you made the block, so it was definitely a spambot. Based on past experience with a similar filter at Illogicopedia, this should stop most or all of the spam coming in, but blocking the accounts or IPs is good too. The filter could do so itself if you like; at the moment it's limited to "disallow". ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 20:17 23 May 2019

It should block them. I did not check the abuse log; but when a "new user" arrives and the first edit is spam that is so easily identifiable, we ought not Assume Good Faith. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif20:49 23-May-19
It does now. I also installed QuestyCaptcha to cut down on the account creation. From what I've read, this is the most effective and least annoying of the captcha variants. The questions I added aren't very inspired -- should we discuss them somewhere? On the list maybe? ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 21:13 25 May 2019
That is better than forcing all of us to clear Google to administer its IQ test just to log in. More precisely preventing the account creation is better than more precisely banning users. I don't care what the questions are provided I can answer them and a bot can't. The very poor English of the spam suggests that we have simply been added to a list of MediaWiki installations to pester every couple of hours. If some human should study our questions and program the 'bot to answer them, we can change them. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif21:48 25-May-19
PS--The date style you use is disfavored (at least in UN:SIG) because 1/6/2019 will mean something different here from there. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif21:56 25-May-19
You're right. I've added month names. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 22:28 25 May 2019

Desysopping[edit]

Thanks. Could you do PIGGY too? I was hoping Sannse would come over here, but she's probably not going to. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 05:18 31 May 2019

  • Sannse has had creative fun here and always knows where we went. She does not need Admin power for this, and might someday use it in another crusade against nip-slips.
  • PIGGY I have not encountered in my decade here; and I think I tried to deopp him at Wikia but somehow could not. However, the last time I acceded to a request to use Admin power to do something a user could have done herself, it became part of a dossier in a campaign to deopp me. So do it yourself. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif14:32 31-May-19
Haydrahlienne and PIGGY were bot accounts used by Lyrithya when she was still trying to move the spoon content to un.uncyclopedia.co. As such, their status is temporary and the task for which they were created either is completed or will not be completed now. carlb (talk) 14:51, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
Yes, both were official Lyrithya bots. Brought back to life briefly but can now be disarmed again. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 16:44, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
Say n'more, done. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif16:51 31-May-19
Great. Sorry, I would prefer not to desysop anyone myself because I'm not a bureaucrat and I'd have to directly query the database. I've considered creating some sort of "sysadmin" user group but haven't done so. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 18:53 31 May 2019

VFH[edit]

Couldn't see how I could vote there now. What happened to that gizmo Mediawiki extension that used to work before Wikia-Fandom messed up everything? --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 11:31, 30 July 2019 (UTC)

I've been voting by just editing the nomination file. I never messed with the VFH gizmos. Llwy has been repairing gizmos from the Wikia depredations; recommend you ask her. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif11:41 30-Jul-19
PS--In fact, most of the breakage is not from Jerry-rigging at Wikia but from adoption of more modern software versions, especially New Improved DPL, and we have done it too. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif13:16 30-Jul-19

Saladin[edit]

Thanks for the edits and additions. More or less finished the article now but further tweaks are welcome.--Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 12:55, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

It's been educational! Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif14:51 18-Sep-19

uncyclopedia.co and uncyclopedia.ca[edit]

Hello. Can you explain to me why there are two versions of the Uncyclopedia? Smalkade (talk) 19:12, 14 October 2019 (UTC)

The wiki at .co broke off from this one in 2013 over creative differences with host Wikia/Fandom (insertion of advertising, censorship even when it was part of the joke, and an effort to warn naive readers which people thought ruined jokes). Wikia/Fandom abandoned its hosting of the original Uncyclopedia earlier this year, so we came here. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif19:48 14-Oct-19

VFP[edit]

Hi SPIKE! I was just going around doing some voting (my civic duty!) and I noticed there are active VFP nominations from 2014. It has been awhile since I payed attention to Uncyclopedia, but I don't remember it taking over five years to close VFP nominations. Can you explain to me what is going on??? Thanks!!! Ratbert (talk) 18:01, 17 October 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for voting for some of my stuff at VFH! The people who cared the most about VFP have fallen away. In fact, since 2014, Wikia allowed me to take over the username "Spike" instead of using all caps. Then, of course, Wikia itself fell away, so none of the former problems matter any more. Thanks for finding us, and I hope you stick around and write some new stuff! Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif19:00 17-Oct-19

UnNews History[edit]

Would it be possible to make an UnNews article about something that happened in history? It would be in a similar vein as The Onion's "Our Dumb Century" in which they have articles about major historical events in the 20th century. It could be branded as something "from the vault" kind of like what Gallup does. Shadowkiller168 The wiki's fastest speedcuber 17:01, 18 October 2019 (UTC) Shadowkiller168 The wiki's fastest speedcuber 17:01, 18 October 2019 (UTC)

You can try anything. I can give anything on the Front Page a "FROM THE VAULT" or "30 YEARS AGO" graphic. Set {{Date}} to a suitable value. But the central joke of UnNews is that it thinks it is a real current-events resource! Might you be better off creating an article about the historical event, and developing it to more than a news article? Romartus and I were just working on the life story of Saladin from the Middle East. PS--I have that book and it is thoroughly funny! Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif18:31 18-Oct-19
PPS--Space Shuttle Challenger is an article of mine about a historical event that's a better read than the basically-one-joke of an UnNews. The problem you have is that the reader wonders, "So, what's the importance of this event just now?" Perhaps you can write an article that also answers that question. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif18:52 18-Oct-19
PPPS--You know, in Our Dumb Century, the Onion writers reinforced the credibility of hundred-year-old news articles by using archaic typesetting that reflected the fashion of the early 1900s. So what typographical style would you give to lend credibility to an UnNews purporting to "report" an event that occurred before the Internet even existed? Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif03:03 8-Nov-19

Gender[edit]

~ "I agree that gender-confused snowflakes are a potential source of humor" ~

Can you elaborate on this? Thank you. SayuriDarling | "No one is born in this world to be alone." 23:46, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

I wrote it to describe Jimlemon's apparent comedy strategy, which I thought had potential, but criticized his execution of it. Are you here to write funny stuff? Thank you. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif01:02 8-Nov-19
I suppose it depends on whether you're here to write funny stuff. I was under the impression that Uncyclopedia and Encyclopedia Dramatica were separate entities. As a representative, would you say the mockery of 'gender-confused snowflakes' is something that generally aligns with Uncyclopedia's broader comedic strategy and ethics? SayuriDarling | "No one is born in this world to be alone." 01:47, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
Our "ethics" here is to write funny stuff. Mockery can be funny; see how I mocked Larry Kudlow whom I esteem and Jeb Bush whom I should but don't. You are giving me the impression that your "ethics" here is to enforce LGBTQ orthodoxy. Do you have a problem with the UnNews article or merely with my comment on it? This being a wiki, and that UnNews being submitted and abandoned, I lay it on you: See if you can (1) make it superficially appear to be an actual news release and (2) develop the comedy so that it is even funny to a reader who would superficially be offended by it. You will need to propose a more "newsy" title (headline) for the article, so that I can rename it. Spıke Radiomicrophone.gif02:58 8-Nov-19
