Just wondering, how long as that said "disgustion"? I don't seem to remember it being like that before... ~Piratehattie.gifCap'n SimzorzAr, Matey! 20:09, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

I noticed it this morning and mentioned it to Mhaille, who said I won the prize for being the first to notice. No prize so far. :) Splarka changed it, I think. ~ T. (talk) 20:12, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
*whistles innocently* --Splaka 23:05, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
Heh heh. 'Huffing log'... like it. --Hindleyite Poet Lowrate Talk 11:59, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes, it's also the same on UnMeta. So what? ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 15:02, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
UnMeta is our testing ground. --KATIE!! 16:18, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
That doesn't explain why it's so important that someone changed it from 'discussion' to 'disgustion'. And anyway, it was 'disgustion' on here before it was on UnMeta. ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 16:25, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Alright, since you've got your panties in a bundle: Spla(r)ka changed "discussion" to "disgustion" yesterday for fun. Sikon changed "delete" to "huff" at UnMeta and the IRC peoples suggested that we do the same here. I said okay cause it didn't go over horribly at UnMeta, knowing that we can always revert. And um, that's all there is to it. In short: we felt like it. --KATIE!! 16:44, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

So the only thing to it is... it isn't actually important. ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 16:49, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Actually, this should really be called "Huff-o-pedia" or "WikiHuff". (laughs at the Huffing Log).--Jtaylor1Small Egg.png 19:11, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

  • I'd prefer "digestion" -- sannse<staff/> (talk) 09:10, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
    • Can we change EDIT to DESTROY? -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb.png (talk to me)
      • I think I like "mangle" more than "destroy" (or is that too English a word?). And what about "move" to "hide"? - and the delete tab should match the logs and be "huff" for sure -- sannse<staff/> (talk) 09:30, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

From left to right (top bar of standard user edition) it should read: Article, Flamewar, Vandalise, History, Click here if you are Willy on Wheels, Stalk. ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 14:52, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

I love it. --User:Nintendorulez 14:55, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes, good shout, Ghelae. --Hindleyite Poet Lowrate Talk 14:57, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
...except Click here if you are Willy on Wheels should be Willypedia: - otherwise the text might not fit in the tab. Nonsense, Flame, Vandalise, Ruins, Willypedia, Cyberstalk? --Carlb 15:09, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Even better. ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 15:12, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
It is a bit long, but Willypedia? Nobody's going to get the reference. How about labeling it "on wheels"? --User:Nintendorulez 22:55, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Let me point out that we are a Wikipedia satire site (as long as we are willing to still belive that) and hence out tabs should be similar to wikipedia's, if not in wording, then at least in legnth, so kindly keep that in mind, eh? --ZB 04:27, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
You have a point, and it is very similar to Wikipedia, but in some cases it has gone so far that the tags may as well bew changed, even if only for April Fool's Day. ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 05:52, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
"On Wheels" doesn't seem too long. --User:Nintendorulez 15:34, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
We never said it was... ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 15:38, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
I was talking to ZB. Always check the indent length. --User:Nintendorulez 15:50, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
*re-reads page* - Oh, I never noticed he said that... Oh, and no thanks, I prefer to random(ish). ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 16:02, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Implement them now! --User:Nintendorulez 19:09, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Implemented something like that on UnMeta. - User:Guest/sig 17:10, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Wheelate, for other readers who (for whatever reason) wanted to know. ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 14:56, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

custom tags

Speaking of specific cases, I wonder if we can find a way to reprogram MediaWiki a bit to let us set custom tabs within the articles. Namely, it'd be useful for AAAAAAAAA! , Developers!, etc. Someone good at PHP, get to it! --User:Nintendorulez 17:57, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
That is a piece of cake, add an onload event in the sitewide javascript and an addlilink(}, but it involves utilizing custom javascripts on a per-page basis (as we do with css), which is just not something we really want or need (the only one asking for it is you Nin). --Splaka 04:04, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Euroipods needs custom tags - something like Vanity, Flamewar, etc... ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 06:00, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

There is a wikipædia kludge used to conditionally display things like the Icone_etoile.png star in the "in other languages" box on pages like fr:Vous avez deux vaches but it's ugly. For instance, "vous avez deux vaches" has an interlanguage link to a featured page in another language, (en: You have two cows). To indicate the featured status of the linked page in the sidebar, "vous avez deux vaches" contains a template {{lien AdQ}} which contains <span class="AdQ" id="{{{1}}}" style="display:none;" />. Code in the mediawiki:monobook.js on fr: searches every page to see if <span class="AdQ" id="en" style="display:none;" /> is there; if it is, the link to the English page gets a pretty little star using this ugly bit of javascript:

/** * Ajout d'un style particulier aux liens interlangues vers des articles de qualités */
function LienAdQ()
{ var lang = document.getElementById("p-lang"); // find language link list
  if(lang) {
     var span = document.getElementsByTagName("span");
     for(i=0; i<span.length; i++) // iterate over all <span>-elements
         { // if found a AdQ span
           if(span[i].className == "AdQ")
              { var li = lang.getElementsByTagName("li");
                for(j=0; j<li.length; j++)
                 {
                    if(li[j].className == "interwiki-" + span[i].id) { // if found a AdQ link
                      li[j].style.padding = "0 0 0 16px";
                      li[j].style.backgroundImage = "url('http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/fr/3/36/Icone_etoile.png')";
                      li[j].style.backgroundRepeat = "no-repeat";
                      li[j].title = "Lien vers un article de qualité";
  } } } } } }

addLoadEvent(LienAdQ);

Not too sure why we'd want to do something like this, though... ick! --Carlb 23:24, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

general tags

Just to weigh in from the fun hating corner, I've got a bit of a problem with changing any of the general use tabs, namely that people will only know what the real meaning is if they're familiar with wikis. I know disgustion is discussion because it's always the second tab but a n00b might see it and not know what it means at all. I think it's cute, and funny, but quite frankly I don't think that joke is worth even the slightest possibility of turning people away from using discussion pages. Also, on the same trend, changing edit to mangle might encourage more mangling of pages, not that I'm sure that's possible. Might I suggest that people pass around custom User:foo/uncyclopedia.js scripts instead of modifying the global files. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 20:12, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Gwax, you have a valid point there, although I think a lot of people visiting Uncyc will have been to Wikipedia and seen their tabs. I understand people new to wikis might be confused by them, but they're not too vague so as people won't be able to guess what the tabs really mean. --Hindleyite | PL | CUN | Converse 20:17, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Only if you're expecting a discussion tab to exist. Also, I suspect that a great number of people who read, without contributing to, wikipedia would be likely to try to contribute here. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 20:31, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Fair point. You've got me there. --Hindleyite | PL | CUN | Converse 20:34, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Custom tabs javascript

If you feel you want custom tabs just for you, copy the following code into your user:name/uncyclopedia.js file.

function tabNames() {
    changeTabText('ca-talk',    'talk');
    changeTabText('ca-edit',    'edit');
    changeTabText('ca-history', 'history');
    changeTabText('ca-delete',  'delete');
    changeTabText('ca-watch',   'watch');
    changeTabText('ca-move',    'move');
    changeTabText('ca-protect', 'protect');
};

function changeTabText(id, text) {
    if (document.getElementById(id)) {
       var tabname = document.getElementById(id).firstChild;
       tabname.removeChild(tabname.firstChild);
       tabname.appendChild(document.createTextNode(text))
       return tabname;
    }
};

window.addEventListener('load', tabNames, false);

Just change the 'talk', 'edit', etc parts to 'flamewar', 'mangle', or what have you, keeping the single quote marks. I couldn't get it to change the namespace tab without breaking the whole javascipt though, most likely because the code is junky junky junky junky junky junk. Works for the rest for me though. Spang talk 05:39, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

That is because each namespace has a different ID for that button: ca-nstab-forum for forum, etc. You'd have to make a case for each one to find which one to change.... Or possibly you can just add to changeTabText a quick abort if that element doesn't exist. --Splaka 07:52, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, but I'm lazy, and it's fine for me as it is ;) Spang talk 08:01, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
What about the move button? --User:Nintendorulez 19:15, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Gah, it doesn't work for me. Help.
I added a couple of lines top the code above which sould make it work for you, and anyone else it wasn't working with. Your .js worked properly for me. Namespace tabs still won't change, though. Spang talk 18:55, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Hmm, still doesn't seem to work... --User:Nintendorulez 11:44, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
