Patrick Wilson (born February 1, 1969) is an American musician. He is only known for being the drummer, and co-founding member of the rock band Weezer — despite being the frontman of his other band, The Special Goodness.

Career[edit]

Early life[edit]

Patrick Wilson was born in Buffalo Wings, New York, on February 1, 1969, and raised in nearby Clarence. He was introduced to music very early on in his life, making his first musical purchase of Barry Manilow's 1976 album This One's for You. Shortly after his fifteenth birthday, he went to his first concert, seeing Van Halen (which Weezer would later title their album Van Weezer after). As a result, he was inspired to start taking drum lessons. In his senior year at High School, Wilson and his friend started an underground drum school. He had amassed over 30 students, and in return for teaching them how to play the drums, they had to buy multiple copies of his records for whatever band he joined after leaving school. This ended up being Weezer, which explains why they sell so many records but whenever you ask people if they know who Weezer are, they all reply "Who?".

Wilson moved to Los Angeles at the age of 21. Shortly after arriving in Los Angeles, he joined the short-lived band Bush (not Gavin Rossdale's Bush, but instead named after the hair on a womans vagina). While in Bush, Wilson met future Weezer bass player Matt Sharp. Eventually by the spring of 1991, Wilson started a band with Patrick Finn, Matt Sharp, and Jason Cropper called Sixty Wrong Sausages. Meanwhile, Wilson was cheating on Sixty Wrong Sausages with another band with future Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo called Fuzz, which dissolved within three months due to all the citric acid. Pat then asked Rivers to join him, Sharp and Cropper, and even managed to convince him to move into an apartment with them. This band had to just "die" though, according to Wilson.

In January 1992, Sharp returned to Los Angeles to join the band, consisting of Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, and Jason Cropper, now under the name Weezer.

Joining Weezer[edit]

In addition to his drum duties, Wilson has three song co-writing credits on Weezer songs. These include "The World has Spun and Kept Me Here," "Bike Wax Canada," "My Name is None of Your Business". He also has solo writing credits on "Manual" (with lead vocal and lead guitar also) and "In the Shopping Centre".

Wilson is also Weezer's resident stuntman. Amusing stunts on skateboards, scooters, and bicycles in Weezer music videos. Most notably in the music video for Hurley song "Memories", in which Weezer teamed up with Johnny Knoxville and Jackass for some shenanigans.

On Weezer's 2009 tour supporting Blink 182, Josh Freese was bought in to play drums for Weezer, while Wilson would play guitar for most of their set. This is because Rivers Cuomo had insisted that he become more interactive and mobile on stage, so he ditched his stickered guitair for just a microphone. This resulted in Wilson taking up responsibility for the guitar parts.
