"We In Da Club" is a hip hop song created by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute Of Technology. After successfully seeking a government grant for $25 million, these researchers managed to create a song that was a composite of all hip hop music released since the year 2000. "We In Da Club" is the result.
In 2007, the results of their methodology were published in the peer-reviewed journal Science in an article entitled Musical structures and cultural themes in the lyrics of 21st century hip-hop music: we in da club in da club in da club.
The researchers made the following findings:
- Hip-hop artists live in nightclubs.
- Hip-hop artists refer to nightclubs as "da club."
- The primary goal of being in da club is to tell as many people as possible that you are in da club.
- The secondary goal of being in da club is to sip dat bubb (which is a slightly renamed form of champagne).
- All hip-hop songs concern themselves with the fact that the lyricist is currently in da club.
From these findings, the researchers tentatively concluded that da club is the hub of all African American music, art, and culture. They cautioned that it should not be confused with da drycleaners, which is the hub of all Vietnamese American economic activity.
