Uncyclopedia:Immigrants

From Uncyclopedia, the content-free encyclopedia

We welcome immigrants from other wikis with open arms, provided they recognize that we do things differently from wikis that they may have been familiar with. Here are some common sites that we get immigrants from:

Wikipedia Immigrants[edit]

Welcome, to those who come from a huge wiki that deals in trivia and truth, coming to a smaller wiki that deals in comedy and satire, with a side of parody. (Do look up satire in Wikipedia if you are not sure what satire is.)

  • Please do not create "stubs" here. The "truth fairy" does not come here in the night, nor even in the same week, to finish your article for you, unlike Wikipedia. A stub article will either be marked with a "construction" tag, an "ICU" tag, or moved to your userspace for you to complete when you are able. Creating multiple stubs in the main article space within the space of a few hours will get you a "time off" ban, in the hopes that you will use the time to read our policies.
  • Keep in mind that the theme of this site is comedy, parody, and satire. None of our articles are meant to be taken seriously in their entirety, except the ones in the Uncyclopedia namespace, especially any labeled as Category:Ignorable policies, or Category:Beginner's Guide. Do read those before editing, to get an idea of how we do things around here.
  • Please avoid category spam, which is creating junk categories(even if the category title is funny). That joke went out of fashion around here about the year 2007, and is now just viewed as an annoying thing to revert and clean up.
  • Please avoid overuse of templates. We do use some maintenance templates, but joke templates went out of fashion around here in 2010, except on user pages. Put as many joke templates as you want on your own user page.
  • Citations are not needed here, except when they are funny. Since our articles are based on something real, but are not to be taken as serious truth, no proof of anything is needed.
  • Articles here may be written with a biased point of view. Please do not try to change the bias in articles, except to make the article funny to as many points of view as possible.

Encyclopedia Dramatica Immigrants[edit]

Even if you come from a competing humor site, we will not treat you like illegal immigrants, unless you do not lurk enough, and do not read our "ignorable" policies before editing, and adhere to them while editing.

  • Uncyclopedia is not politically correct, but also does not seek to offend anyone. Giving deliberate offense is funny for the author and not funny for the reader. That offends us, and we take it out on the article.
  • Rants are not considered funny here. They immediately take a page out of the "encyclopedia" frame, which means there has to be a good reason and they have to be done especially well. On the not-so-rare occasion that an Admin has to read you the rules, you may see an example of a rant done well.
  • Contrary to what you may have read about us on ED, we no longer find quotations, even from Oscar Wilde, funny in themselves. And the stuff at the very start of an article ought to be especially funny and not repulsive. So please avoid putting a bunch of quotations at the top of pages. There is more about this at UNQUOTE.
  • Kitten-huffing? The Jesii? Likewise, despite what it says about us on ED, many memes have gone to our Old Memes' Home. Please assume nothing is automatically funny just by being overused.
  • Please do take the time to read Uncyclopedia:How To Be Funny And Not Just Stupid and Uncyclopedia:How To Be Funny And Not Just Stupid THE IMAGE VERSION. Those are our style guides to our style of comedy writing, and our style of image making. Reading them does NOT mean you admit that you are stupid, but that you are willing to learn. When we tell you to read them, it does not even mean that we think you are stupid, just that you could benefit from learning how things work around here. Really, those pages are a part of the Beginner's Guide.
  • Please do not add image galleries or external links to pages. We are not a catalog of funny stuff done elsewhere, but a website for original comedy writing.

Fandom Immigrants[edit]

If you have edited on another Wikia wiki before, your username from the rest of Wikia now carries over here. Likewise, if you create a username here, it will now be that same username on the rest of Wikia Fandom, so choose carefully. User names that were created before the merge with the Wikia username database that were duplicated in the rest of Wikia Fandom now have an Un- in front of them.

  • Keep in mind that our articles don't just have a comedy theme, they are written to be funny. Writing funny stuff together with other writers requires more collaboration than writing factual stuff (including stuff that might not be notable enough for Wikipedia, but is notable in its topic area). Use the user talk pages to communicate with other editors if you want to collaborate with them, or the article talk pages if you have feedback on an article or an idea for the article, including one you are not sure how to implement.
  • This is not a fiction wiki. Fictional stories here must be funny, and related to something notable to stay in the main article space. Otherwise, with 30,000 articles or so here, nobody will ever think to look for your article.
  • Please do not take your gripes about other wikis here. Sorry, but we just don't care.
  • Articles here do not need to be based on "canon", though that usually doesn't hurt, to make them funny. But if you are writing about well-known fan fiction, you must bring your reader up to speed who may be unfamiliar with the material. Sometimes we even mix fan fiction and canon together here.
  • Remember that your userspace is different on every wiki that you use. This may require you to create a new signature file for every wiki you use across Fandom/Wikia.
