afford (plural affords)

  1. (language) A means of crossing a particularly long word or text which has not been abridged. A famous historical case is George Washington's affording of the Delaware, which as a result became simply the "Dare".
  2. $17 billion. The amount taken to buy a car manufacturer that cannot make a profit
  3. An incorrect spelling of 'a vehicle made by The Ford Motor Company', usually with the inscription ford on the vehicle somewhere (usually on the front and/or back).
