Sunday - Wednesday: Concept and development[edit]

During the four days from Sunday, 21 March 2010, to Wednesday, 24 March 2010, ideas for the current colonization, which is

DISCORDIANISM

can be were hashed out here. The discussion below should be geared towards what sort of concept the article will have. All colonizers are welcome to participate in the discussion.

On early Thursday, 25 March 2010, a general outline from these ideas will be was compiled and posted at Uncyclopedia_talk:Imperial_Colonization/Discordianism#DISCORDIANISM:_YOUR_GUIDE_TO_CHAOTICALLY_SAVING_THE_WORLD. Other things that could happen during this planning phase include deciding which participants will be working on which sections, although that is strictly optional.

VOTE QUICKLY--CURRENT DEADLINE IS 03:00 UTC 25 MARCH 2010 (or slightly after)

As we don't have a consensus yet, I'm making this a vote. You can vote for one or two; your choice. In case of a tie, I reserve the right to decide between the top vote getters. I'm changing suggestions into noms; if you want to change it to a nom and for, do it--but no more than two votes for. Comment on all you want to make comments on. • Nom and For. How about a story about Eris, in the form of one of the Discordian American Princesses (I'd say Miley gets to pick which one, and Cyrus herself ain't a bad choice) going on a mission to remove the Curse of Greyface from the human race. As she does this we can work in all the data about Discordianism, in a funny way of course. During her quest none of the humans with the Curse can understand her mission until it is complete. Then, when the curse is lifted, yay, they all instantly 'get it', happily do away with all wars and such unfun things, and live happily everafter, the end. But more detailed and funnier than that. On the old page, I looked for something to save and all I could find were the external links, which are quite good. Aleister in Chains 15:14 21 3 MMX

  • Comment I'm unlikely to be a major contributor here, however this idea has been the one that I find most interesting. I was actually trying to think of an article similar to this relating to The Game and Christianity. After all, Christianity believes that by knowing about Christianity and not following it you are condemned, once you know about Christianity you have to follow it, and The Game has been referred to as a sociological virus and religion has been referred to as the "opiate for the masses". This lionks this concept with the following one, and linking a Discordianism theology to something similar would not be that difficult, and making the parallels - after all, they are all memes. Whatever format we choose, remember that we will need to give a basic explanation of what Discordianism is, or at least some twisted explanation. I agreed that this is likely to be a popular topic (especially as this site has a few Discordian Categories, and in recent months several of the featured articles here have been Discordian-related), but it's likely not as well known as Batman or Creationism.

Also if you Discordians could provide links to source material (Principia Discordia, etc.) that would be helpful. WHY???PuppyOnTheRadio 19:52, March 22, 2010 (UTC)

Decisions, Decisions[edit]

Hmm, if I ignore the against vote (do we have against votes? We don't on nomming articles; don't know if IC traditionally had them here or not), we have a three-way tie. Or if I count the against vote, and count the unsigned vote (which I see was done by Nameable), then again we have a three-way tie. Is there a way to make it a Discordian American Princess terrorist saves the world by using different Discordian groups? Ah, not that I can see. Let me think about this a bit. WHY???PuppyOnTheRadio 03:55, March 25, 2010 (UTC)

All right, I've thought about it.

A DAP saves humanity from the curse of Greyface: "How about a story about Eris, in the form of one of the Discordian American Princesses...going on a mission to remove the Curse of Greyface from the human race." Cool story, but would that better as a UnBook?

Discordians are a mind terrorist threat: "Write it like Discordianism is a threat to the world, like they're mind terrorists or something." My impression of Discordians is that they are a "threat" to the mind, that they love challenging people's perspective on reality.

SEE POST BELOW--THE TERRORIST THREAT IDEA HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE.

Types of Discordians: Princesses to Hate Ranters: "Write it to show different Discordian types, like Discordian American Princesses, Hippie Discordians, Hate Rant Discordians, Robert Anton Wilson fanboys, etc." This has the advantage of introducing the topic.

The terrorist threat idea has already been done[edit]

We don't need to write the terrorist threat idea--it's already been done. Starting at page 88 from Apocrypha Discordia:

Concerned Citizens for a Safe Internet

PRESS RELEASE

Discordianism: the Hidden Threat

In the Senate Anti-Terrorism Hearings in the wake of the Oklahoma bombing, a new menace has come to light. This menace is a shadowy, formless anarchoterrorist cult known as Discordianism. This cult contaminates the information superhighway and its tentacles reach everywhere.

Below are some facts about this organization, its methods and motives.

FACT: One of the founders of Discordianism was involved in the Kennedy assassination.

Discordianism was cofounded by Kerry Thornley. Thornley was a close friend of Lee Harvey Oswald and was involved in a covert Marxist group in the Marines. After the assassination of President Kennedy, District Attorney Jim Garrison uncovered evidence conclusively linking Thornley to the conspiracy.

FACT: Discordianism preaches drug use, terrorism and sexual depravity and the overthrow of all governments

The Discordian “Bible”, the Principia Discordia, contain incitement to plant marijuana and disobey laws and advocacy of pornography and blasphemy. Other materials are even more explicit and extreme. THESE MATERIALS ARE DISTRIBUTED WIDELY BY THE MEMBERS OF THIS CULT.

Discordians are prominent in drug advocate, anarchist, communist and militia movements. They will be found in any movement which opposes and hastens the destruction of society.

It is clear that the Discordians have no respect for the values of society which they seek to destroy. And if society does not see the threat and react to it swiftly they may succeed.

FACT: Discordians are entrenched on the Internet and use it to disseminate their propaganda

Discordianism is a cancer which has spread widely all over the Information Superhighway. There are Discordian Netscape pages advocating sexual perversion, anarchism and drug abuse. There are even newsgroups created and run by Discordian agents. The Net, which is decentralized and hard to police, is a perfect haven for these rats.

WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE

SUPPORT THE TELECOMMUNICATIONS REFORM ACT

The Telecommunications Reform Act, currently before the Senate, will make it a criminal offense to distribute obscene and indecent material, categories under which Discordian propaganda clearly falls. This would allow the perpetrators of these materials to be properly dealt with by the law. Write to your congressman indicating your support for the act.

PRESSURE ONLINE SERVICES TO SHUT DOWN KNOWN DISCORDIAN SITES.

There are Netscape pages all over the net run by Discordian cells, disseminating their poisonous propaganda to children. Some of these are at universities, some at commercial service providers. Letters and phone calls to the sites, describing the material and explaining why it is unacceptable would get it pulled. If the site refuses to comply, it may be sympathetic to or controlled by the Discordian group. If that is so, contact the site which provides it access and complain.

EDUCATE OTHERS ABOUT THE MENACE

Copy and spread this alert. Transmit it to others. Tell others about the menace and the very real threat of Discordianism. The more people know, the fewer will be seduced by their lies.

PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN

If your children have access to the net, monitor what they access. Do not allow them to access Discordian materials. If they have been contacted by agents of Discordianism, determine these agents’ identities and call the police.

ACT LOCAL

Keep your eyes open — the Discordians could be where you are! Look around you. If you notice Discordian activity, in your community, your workplace, your online service or elsewhere, keep an eye on it and alert others. Report any illegal activity to law enforcement authorities. Only you can stop this threat!

DISSEMINATE THIS ALERT WIDELY. SEND COPIES TO ALL CONCERNED CITIZENS. IT’S UP TO YOU! ACT NOW!

DISCORDIANISM: YOUR GUIDE TO CHAOTICALLY SAVING THE WORLD[edit]

PLEASE DO NOT EDIT THIS SECTION. This is the guideline for writing this article. However, this is not cast in concrete as I'm not real sure of this yet. It may be difficult to keep the DAP adventure as an article without this becoming an UnBook. We'll try this for the next few days; if it doesn't seem to be working, we'll likely go with "Types of Discordians: Princesses to Hate Ranters" If you have ideas for tweaks or changes, feel free to post them in Comments on Guide below.

A Discordian American Princess goes on a mission to remove the Curse of Greyface from the human race. She plans to save the world or, to paraphrase a quote from the movie The Blues Brothers, "I'm on a mission from Goddess." Perhaps she talks to one or more non-Discordian who is/are convinced that Discordians are all mind terrorists (or maybe one of the Discordians groups claims they are mind terrorists). Along the way she encounters different Discordian groups, and encourages them to join her. She perhaps talks to Orthodox Discordians, Surreal Discordians, Hate Rant Discordians, Fanboy Conspiracy Discordians, Hippie Discordians. (See suggestion for Discordian types HERE). By reading her interactions with them, the reader gets an idea of what these different groups are, and of what Discordianism is. During her quest, none of the humans under the Curse can understand or accept her mission. "Then, when the curse is lifted, yay, they all instantly 'get it', happily do away with all wars and such unfun things, and live happily ever after, the end." Or do they? Perhaps this would end better with an ironic twist.

Plus a little from column 2 and column 4 if I'm reading it right. User:PuppyOnTheRadio/sigheil Thursday, 05:52, Mar 25 2010 UTC
Yeah, as we had something like a three-way tie, I tried more-or-less putting them together. The terrorist idea should probably be minimal as I found the piece above on the topic that was, in my opinion, well-written. Perhaps we could use it in a link--the source says it's kopyleft. In my opinion, the DAP on a mission wouldn't work unless we explain Discordianism, and telling about the different groups seems a good way to do that. As I posted, this isn't set in concrete.
At the request of colonizers, our base writing time is longer than it was for the previous two articles, and could be extended for another week. Thus 1/2 week (concept) + 2 1/2 weeks writing = 3 weeks and, with the optional extension of 1 week, could total four weeks. WHY???PuppyOnTheRadio 06:14, March 25, 2010 (UTC)
Does Miley get to pick the Princess who works through the page? I think she should, as she is our link and guide to the DAP world. And the concept is so large and interesting it will take a month to wrap my head around it. An UnNovel could actually be done from this. Al en'chain 10:37 25 3 mmx
Here's my ideas for the princess. She should be somebody really famous or someone who's not. I know Miley Cyrus, Brooke Shields, Jamie Lynn Spears and Britney Spears best. We wouldn't have to use their full name maybe just Miley or Brooke or Jamie or Britney.
But what about one that's not as known like Minnie Rae? She knew Emperor Norton who's a Discordian saint who claimed to be President of America and protector of Mexico. She went to England and met James Barrie and pretended to be his wife. He later wrote Peter Pan and Wendy and Wendy is based on her. But she was also a young prostitute and is a Discordian saint. Here's the top link for her on google and here's the second.
Also I think she could meet some of the famous Discordians like Malaclypse the Younger, Omar Khayyam Ravenhurst, Robert Anton Wilson, Reverend Loveshade, Hakim Bey, Professor Cramulus, Professor Mu-Chao, St. Mae and more. Admin DAP Dame Pleb Com. Miley Spears (talk) 16:34, March 25, 2010 (UTC)
Personally, I'd rather we do names that are take-offs, either completely made up characters, or ones inspired by the real people with names that sound similar but not the same. Although with the founders like Malaclypse, Omar and Wilson, perhaps real names. And Minnie Rae seems to be working so far, although I'm still not certain about doing this as a story instead of describing each group--opinions, colonizers?WHY???PuppyOnTheRadio 02:20, March 29, 2010 (UTC)

Discordian types[edit]

Ok I started it! I like Minnie Rae but of course ppl can change it. Now maybe each person can start a section? Like she meets a person from each group; we could probably make up names. Maybe none of the groups help her because they're all doing their own thing. Here are some types:

  • Orthodox Discordians (Rev. Dr. Hexar le Saipe called it). Malaclypse the Younger is like Moses, and Omar Khayyam Ravenhurst like Joseph Smith, and Robert Anton Wilson like Father Abraham or Abraham Lincoln. If it's not original text, it's nothing. They're to Discordianism what fundamentalism is to Christianity. They're the Really Real DiscordiansTM and you're not. Sacred book is Principia Discordia.
  • Surreal Discordians (Professor Mu-Chao called it) or Rutabega Discordians (St. Mae called them). They take the Discordian "Nonsense as Salvation" idea totally, but ignore everything else in Principia Discordia. If it makes no sense, it's Discordian; if it does, it isn't. Putting up nonsense posters is a holy act. Sacred books are Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Principia Discordia.
  • Hate Rant Discordians. They say everything is terrible, everybody's imprisoned in their own mind, everybody is stupid but them. They say anyone who says they're a "really real Discordian" is an idiot, but if you don't agree with them you aren't a real Discordian and they'll tear you to shreds. Sacred book is The Black Iron Prison and not Principia Discordia.
  • Fanboy Discordians or Conspiracy Discordians. Robert Anton Wilson is like Father Abraham, and the Illuminati work to control everything, Fnord. Anything RAW wrote is gospel, and the conspiracy is everywhere. Trust no one except your closest friends--and watch them carefully. RAW said so--and if you claim he was writing fiction, you're part of the conspiracy. Sacred book is The Illuminatus! Trilogy and anything else Wilson wrote.
  • Hippie Discordians. This is where the original Discordian American Princesses came from. These Discordians started the hand Peace Sign that became big with 1960s hippies and modern day DAPs like Miley Ray Cyrus. They're into peace and love and freedom and pot and sex. If it harms no one, do as you will. Sacred books are Ek-sen-trik-kuh Discordia: The Tales of Shamlicht and Principia Discordia.

Admin DAP Dame Pleb Com. Miley Spears (talk) 20:07, March 25, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the descriptions! A couple people said they might like to work on individual sections, and that is an option stated for the writing of the article. I just suggest that editors remember 1) any colonizer may rewrite whatever they wrote; and 2) keep in mind that if each of this sections is fairly long, the article will be really long. I'd keep them relatively short. Then we can have a concluding section at the end. WHY???PuppyOnTheRadio 23:03, March 25, 2010 (UTC)
I added headings for each of these sections. The titles of each section can certainly be changed--I made them generic for easy identification. WHY???PuppyOnTheRadio 02:26, March 29, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the work that's been done so far! You're a creative bunch. I'll be coming along later and doing more edits, but for now it's playtime with the article. I do want to make a reminder, however, that the sections should be kept relatively short or the whole article will be very long. If a section you wrote is one of the longest, you or another editor might want to work on editing and shortening it. Thanks again! WHY???PuppyOnTheRadio 02:09, March 31, 2010 (UTC)

Where should the so-called pinealists be added? Even some of the surreal Discordians are annoyed by them. --Striker2117 02:23, April 13, 2010 (UTC)

What are the pinealists? WHY???PuppyOnTheRadio 02:52, April 14, 2010 (UTC)
Pinealist is a derogatory term used for a Discordian who does nothing but babble extreme nonsense. These guys even make the Surrealist Discordians look down-to-earth at times (although depending on who is doing the classifying, they may already be lumped together with the Surrealists). ie. A Surrealist might tell something that is a bit nonsensical in semantics or logic, but still is coherent enough to be understood. People who get called pinealists seem to just string words together that cannot be comprehended("Fish glib the aforementioned ran and fishstork teh minefield" or http://shii.org/knows/Penguin_of_Doom )--Striker2117 22:24, April 15, 2010 (UTC)

Hopefully, we all won. This is the guideline for the article, although as of this moment it's not set in concert. We've decided on a clear direction for the previous two articles by consensus, not vote. But as we hadn't reached a consensus on this one, I made an eleventh hour decision to have a vote. I didn't have time to plan that all out, so hadn't specified if against votes are counted, if unsigned votes count (they don't simply because voting is limited to IC members, but it was an IC member who voted), etc.
As for the anecdote from the PD, if you want to try doing something different, go for it. This is a group effort, so we're expected to try different things along the way--later we can decide which we think works best. WHY???PuppyOnTheRadio 18:49, March 26, 2010 (UTC)

Really I just read it again and I don't feel very much of it is funny. We need more humor! And that's not just about other ppl the stuff I wrote isn't funny. Also the Hate Rant Discordians doesn't have much to do with them. I don't see them saying "ALL PRAISE TO HOFFMAN AND RUBIN!!" because they tend to say old stuff is hippie stuff we need new stuff. Nobody can tell a Discordian what to believe. And if you other Discordians don't agree with our point of view we'll kill you!" Then the other HRD could say, "Awesome!" "Mittens!" "Two Mittens! The summary plan has the section on conspiracies as Robert Anton Wilson fans, which is also a hate approach to what is really a group of people who see conspiracies in everything because they KNOW that you can take any set of circumstances and create order out of the chaos, so the fact of order itself is seen as a brain transformation and not as real. So there are really no "consipracy" discordians per se. So for me to hate up the article is something I won't do, and this is out of bias I guess. All for now. Al sans chains 23:14 12 4 mmx
Ok well I made up the HRD so I'll explain them. There's a couple websites www.poee.co.uk and principiadiscordia.com where most of the HRDs are. They have a lot of rants about things they don't like and how stupid people are. If u sign up for them especially pd.com then they totally insult you just to get your reaction. Some ppl there are really nice but a lot do that to see what u do. But if they like u then they're totally supportive which they say by "mittens" thats like thumbs up. If they don't like u they'll insult you and threaten u anything to get u to go away. But a lot of them think Principia Discordia is old hippie stuff. The Black Iron Prison is a real book u can find it online.
Also we should have something about Intermittens thats the Discordian magazine at intermittens.org. Admin DAP Dame Pleb Com. Miley Spears (talk) 18:39, April 13, 2010 (UTC)
I tried using as much of what u did but still make it fit the HRD. I hope that's Ok! :) Admin DAP Dame Pleb Com. Miley Spears (talk) 19:25, April 13, 2010 (UTC)
Hi. I've never looked at the chat websites, and will check them out. But they sound pretty messed up if described. The "old hippie" stuff is actually the kick-off of the discordian history, and guys like Hoffman and Rubin just played with society for the purpose of changing it both through street performance absurdity and through other forms of comic societal statements. True discordians. The Bob Wilson references on the page seem odd to me, as anyone who really knows his, Shea's, Leary's etc. work know that he never really believed in conspiracies per se, as large conspiracies would fail of their own weight (maybe as large collabs sometimes do), but showed how our minds are capable of forming patterns around anything (Wilson had a great line, paraphrasing, "If you can't find an image of the Virgin Mary within a 10 foot radius around you at any given time you're not using your brain correctly") with the trick being the recognition of that and the use of it for fun and wonderment. I'm a Wilson fanboy on one level, and so would have to go well outside my bias and knowledge base to satirize him in the negative, which, of course, I should do, and will do just that and add to that section. We do have time, right? Really, this does need another week or so to polish and work in some funny. And I promise to give it a try sometime in the next couple/few days (have get some sick since getting back from my Vegas trip, and have been lying around for the past few days, which is why I'm on-line so much in that time.) A long note here, thanks. Al sans chains 19:45 13 4 mmx
People take The Da Vinci Code seriously too. I remember the nonsense lyrics of the Beatle's "I Am The Walrus" were written specifically because the band learned school kids were being assigned to analyze Beatle's lyrics, so they wrote lyrics that were utter nonsense. But people have analyzed those too (we had a fine article here about that). If you do want to bring out another side of Wilson, perhaps just a line by Minnie Rae saying "But that's just fiction" could do it.
I see you already added another side of Wilson, so all right. WHY???PuppyOnTheRadio 02:36, April 14, 2010 (UTC)
I will work on changing the ending a bit, as I don't think we want one Discordian group to be the "right group," and the article almost seems to imply that right now.
All in all, I think you colonizers are doing a great job with the article. I do agree that it could use more humor. And remember that even though the "final" deadline is April 17, that's really the deadline before Pee Review. There'll be time to work on it after that before it's copied to mainspace (assuming my successor continues to do it that way). WHY???PuppyOnTheRadio 02:10, April 14, 2010 (UTC)

Discordian synchronicity[edit]

I didn't plan this at all. But I'd been working on the article on Discordianism, which has two holy numbers of 5 and 23. After literally hours, I finally made my last edit. I glanced through the article and what did I see had come up with the time stamp that tell you when you accessed the page?

"BECAUSE I JUST MOVED YOU FORWARD IN TIME TO 05:23, April 17 2010 (UTC)."

I checked, and I did indeed make my last edit to the article at 5:23. http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/index.php?title=Uncyclopedia:Imperial_Colonization/Discordianism&oldid=4507327 WHY???PuppyOnTheRadio 05:34, April 17, 2010 (UTC)

Make your final edits please[edit]

In about 23 hours, maybe a little more and maybe less, this article will be moved out of the current colonization and put up for Pee Review. Please make your final edits before Pee Review. WHY???PuppyOnTheRadio 05:37, April 17, 2010 (UTC)
