Tentatively thinking about Aldi in VFD, if there is a thread there that is not a chav-fest or already covered in Walmart. Wikipedia informs it was unique, in that there were gates and turnstiles at the checkout, to force customers through. They also charged for carrier bags before it became an environmental thing... and they took cash only until 2004. Could this be pulled in the direction/mash of an old fashioned cattle market?  EStop Press here for Room Service 08:38, 4 July 2019 (UTC)

That sounds like a good way to start. We've gotten some Aldi's here. No bags, because we're Saving The Planet so screw you. These take cash, so they haven't gone completely screw you. I've gone in for a bag of carrots to munch on, or anything else that will fit in two hands (because, no bags). Everything else is House Brand and unremarkable. We have a family-run local chain that is just as good a bargain. If both founders were Aldo (I'm thinking Aldo Novo), wouldn't they collectively be Aldi? Spıke 🎙️10:46 4-Jul-19
Thanks, need more ideas to expand the history and hoping a wave of inspiration will arrive. The no-bag thing caught me out a couple of times, going away one sometimes misses these changes (or forgets pin numbers). I was putting all the bits straight into the trolley as they were scanned, feeling as confused as the cashier was looking. Only realized when loading the car.  EStop Press here for Room Service 17:38, 4 July 2019 (UTC)

Is it a wrap?[edit]

I took the bit about the corporate schism from Wikipedia and mixed in elements of German history. But I don't see other promising material at Wikipedia. Are we done? Add a section on Controversy? Spıke 🎙️13:00 5-Jul-19

Not a lot else leaps out just now. If you feel that there is more that can be made of is, happy to continue exploring ideas too. Other than that, a worthy rescue from VFD as it is well known.  EStop Press here for Room Service 13:42, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

So, you gonna vote? Spıke 🎙️13:51 5-Jul-19
