Making up Bob Dole quotes

Delete Hey hey, ho ho, Making up Bob Dole quotes has got to go! It's boring, unfunny, overly political, and whoever wrote it doesn't know anything about formatting. And it's not as if I'm being political by calilng for it's deletion. It's just a crappy page. Also, FYI: I'm a big fan of making up quotes in general. (I'm trying to popularize HowTo:Make up quotes - check it out!) It's just that this particular page sucks. This is the first time I've ever submitted a page for deletion in any wiki ever ... wow ... If anybody wants to reformat it and try to think of something really really funny to say and save it, fine by me. Go for it! I'd prefer that happen. But otherwise, it's NUKE TIME! Nerd42 23:46, 21 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Already been deleted 3 times. The stupid thing just keeps growing back! Dawg.gif » Brig Sir Dawg | t | v | c » 00:00, 22 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Would you prefer I did not link to it from HowTo:Make up quotes? I was just doing it sort of in the interests of fairness ... even though I wanted the page deleted ... isn't there some kinda tag you admins can add that locks the page down so people can't edit it? I've seen that done on wikipedia ... Nerd42 00:07, 22 Oct 2005 (UTC)
There is, but we use it sparingly - mainly for the CVP. You can leave it if you want or omit it - your choice, it tends to grow back slowly. Dawg.gif » Brig Sir Dawg | t | v | c » 00:41, 22 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Dog City

Yes, I'm obnoxious, I know, but if there was a point to this article, or humour involved, then it went right over my head. Also, everything else edited by the same guy seems to be one-line unfunny stuff. --Malleus 09:10, 21 Oct 2005 (UTC)

1895 war of cookies, Arc the lad, BatTom, Crapola, Coon

I found these while looking through the uncategorised articles section, and couldn't find any redeeming features. Am I the only one who thinks articles like these should be shot repeatedly? If they had physical bodies, anyway. --Malleus 03:25, 21 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Kellogg, Brown, & Root

This seemed to me to be completely pointless. The reference to Neocon doesn't seem to have any actual meaning, and I couldn't really make any connection between this and the reference to it in the article for Dick "Robot" Cheney. --Malleus 09:56, 20 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I'm still new, but I saw this and thought that it should be put here. It's pointless, not funny, and neither are the others that are linked to it. It also had a badly written sentence referring to it in the Latvia entry. If I'm wrong about this, please point it out. --Malleus 00:53, 20 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Not really very much better though.
I'll stub it.

I must say that the re-write is a lot better than before (and is already a lot better than many articles on uncyclopedia), though needs work of course. I read it... it's just not funny at all. Funny material has at least something to do with the real world. Funny material takes reality and gives it a verbal wedgie. Door C is just random sentences. Just like the Ballmer template, some people seem to find that it gets funnier the more you overuse it. I say keep it, it's not very annoying. --Carlos the Mean 17:32, 24 Sep 2005 (UTC)

You do have a point. Because I still find the Balmer one pretty funny. I was just venting my frustration at having to delete bunches of this template from a number of pages where it was just plain stupid. "George Bush doesn't care about people for whom quotes are made up." "George Bush doesn't care about 2b or not 2b." "George Bush doesn't care about User:OneTopJob6." With no connection to the articles, I guess it's on the same level as dumping "Bush is ghey!!!" on the same pages. While I don't seriously expect this to be deleted, I'm using this as a soap box to say:
Please tie this template into the content of the page. If you don't, I will have to kill you. Thanks.
And now I will waste 2 hrs deleting it from 75% of the pages it is on. Feel free to help. --Bone F clear.png Sir Famine, Gun Petition » 15:09, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Ok, now I am no longer amused with the Balmer quote. Once I perfect Giantmutantspideration a whole bunch of you are totally screwed. --Bone F clear.png Sir Famine, Gun Petition » 15:31, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Keep. The template is not guilty that it's overused. Strip it from articles it doesn't belong to. - Guest 17:40, 24 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Keep with restrictions. There are some articles which fit in well with the context of the article. Just like the Ballmer quote, it should only be added if it somehow relates to the article it's posted on, and not just at random. --sColdWhat 10:42, 19 Oct 2005 (UTC)

And therein lies the problem. 98.3% of the usage is not in context (or only vaguely-so) when the template is so easy to use. If it's worthy, just put it directly in the article. --Dawg.gif » Brig Sir Dawg | t | v | c » 15:29, 19 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Why delete a template because it's so easy to use? If we are to write the quote right into the article, I think we should keep the template so we can {{subst:}} it. But I'm starting to forget the purpose of this template. --sColdWhat 22:18, 19 Oct 2005 (UTC).
It's better to use the Randomquote template. If it's totally canned and has no variation, it probably has only a handful of suitable uses on the entire site, which means you might as well go to the effort to place the entire thing in the page, rather than just the template. Random quotes of the canned variety may sometimes add to a page, and they're easier to change/rotate. Since "Ballmer" and "Kayne" are canned and cannot really be used for quotes from anyone else, they are dead-ends and only temporally entertaining (Bush's lease expires in 2009, for instance). --Dawg.gif » Brig Sir Dawg | t | v | c » 22:52, 19 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Merge. Unify all of the templates so that one of them is used at random. Each time the article is displayed, a different type of quote appears. For a similar type of template, see Template:Really random sighting. --KP CUN 03:06, 28 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Do you mean like this? Template:Randomquote (view the source). Minimalistic, and quote forms can be added or removed later as they become/unbecome popular. The originating quote templates can be deleted and the forms moved to this quotepage too. Also, with proper weighting, it will rarely show. --Splaka 03:17, 28 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Splaka, that’s perfect. --KP

CUN 03:28, 28 Sep 2005 (UTC)

A second thought occurs too. All the occurances of Template:Really random sighting could be deleted and replaced with this, and the template Template:Really random sighting added to the list. Maybe bring this up in the VD. --Splaka 03:34, 28 Sep 2005 (UTC)
I think that they should be kept separate. The really random sightings involve Elvis, the Loch Ness Monster, UFOs, and Big Foot. These should appear only sporadically. The random quotes should appear more often. Some articles may want to have a random quote appear every time. --KP CUN 04:05, 28 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Ok, that makes more sense. A way to vary the amount of randomness would be to have a parameter (ie: {{randomquote|50}}) that went directly into <option weight="{{{1}}}"></option>. Higher number = more odds of being blank *shrug*. It might be, if there were enough one-line quotes (Kanye/Ballmer style), that we might not even want a blank option. --Splaka 04:10, 28 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Personally, I'd vote to keep the ReallyRandomSighting template. It has a separate purpose from this template. An MTU is not necessarily a vote to keep. When a rather short page is a bit better than a QVFD, I put it on MTU, to give it 7 days to shape up, before a VFA/QVFA/Move.
