Past Political Compass Threads

Hello all,

I've decided to set the record straight with this forum.

If you notice, many people on the "same side" of arguments (e.g. Conservative-Liberal, Religious-Non-religious) can have wildly different views. The purpose of this forum is to document the different views between people, and also mark down what all of our opinions/stances are on the world's two top rift-causing issues: religion and politics.

Here's the setup-

Start by posting under the Religion header what your religion is/what your religious stance is (e.g. Christian, Atheist, etc), and nothing else (Besides your sig)

Then, do the same under Political, except with your political stance (Liberal-Center/Swing/Independent-Conservative). You can use This handy political compass calculator to find out where you stand. If you do use it, post your coordinates with your stance. Finally, I'd like to brew some good conversation on this topic. That's what the Discussion tab is for; I'd like to hear your reasons for how yo think, and why EVERYBODY ELSE IS WRONG the others aren't as "right" as you. Lively debate is encouraged.

I'll kick that off. A (Ruins) 23:14, 8 June 2012

  • Frankly, I think these labels are restrictive and detract from many important issues. Firstly, I'm a proponent of direct democracy. I'm aware that a lot of people are idiots, but reducing politics-associated thought to choosing between two parties is about the best thing you can do to encourage said idiotism. Obviously though, there'd have to be some unamendable constitutional laws to prevent discrimination against minorities and decisions based solely on religious dogma. As for the issues the political compass calculator inquires about, the government should provide social security and a decent justice system. For financing these things and only for these things, the government may impose taxes and pass legislations. For the rest, the government can have only as much influence on the economy as any corporation is allowed to have (the key difference with a normal company being that this one is to be directly regulated by a nation's population). Though if the free market needs to be violated to ensure social security and civil liberties, I honestly couldn't care less.
But if you must know my score; Economic Left/Right: -6.38 • Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.31, right between Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama. : ) Sir SockySexy girls.jpg Mermaid with dolphin.jpg Tired Marilyn Monroe.jpg (talk) (stalk)Magnemite.gif Icons-flag-be.png GUN SotM UotM PMotM UotY PotM WotM 02:25, 9 June 2012

  • Symbol comment vote.svg Comment. That survey linked above quizzes its takers on platitudes and vague statements, and none of the questions has an "I couldn't give less of a fuck" option. So it would be hard for me to take it with any seriousness. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngSat, Jun 9 '12 3:57 (UTC)
Yeah, I would've probably scored less commie if they hadn't asked questions about the rampant sexualization of our society. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean I'd want the government to make it illegal. And just because I don't want the government to make the rampant sexualization of our society illegal doesn't mean I like it. Seriously, folks, sometimes I just want to watch the Food channel without getting an erection. Is that too much to ask? ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngSat, Jun 9 '12 11:58 (UTC)
It's more the non-erection-inducing material that doesn't suit my fancy. Like being shown a giant, throbbing penis on one of the main channels. I would say "remind me never to come to Belgium," but I intend to come there some day, to sample your multitudinous beers and, hopefully, your women. So could y'all do me a favor and turn your TVs off a few minutes before I get there? ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-us.pngSat, Jun 9 '12 12:36 (UTC)
Granted, that only happened once. Though graphic imagery is pretty common around here and you shouldn't expect a warning before they show it. Like a couple days ago, I zapped to one of the main channels and there was a new show on about doctors and stuff. Guess what the first thing is I see? A doctor doing some gross stuff to some guy's penis. Ugh, not ever watching that show again. And in a news segment about war and terrorism and stuff, there was this changing background and at one point it casually changed to that pyramid of nude guys in Abu Ghraib. Or a while ago in a talk show, someone says they went to a zoo and suddenly they show two bonobos going at it, rather violently I might add. In a similar fashion, in this one game show with a round where you're shown a number of images and you gotta say what they're from, they chose the theme "animal penises" once. Sometimes I really wish Belgium had as many fundagelicals as the US. : / Sir SockySexy girls.jpg Mermaid with dolphin.jpg Tired Marilyn Monroe.jpg (talk) (stalk)Magnemite.gif Icons-flag-be.png GUN SotM UotM PMotM UotY PotM WotM 13:14, 9 June 2012

I'm going to post this pic everytime I see ED mentioned in the forums. It's a nice pic of my Pa'. *sniff*, I miss Pa'. Went out for smokes and never came back, he did. Plus, since headers don't appear to be length-limited, I can just ramble on about whatever comes to mind. Which is nice. The rambling, I mean...

  • Some of the questions are deliberately obfuscating or omit key areas that would probably shift ones political stance on the spectrum.--Sycamore (Talk) 09:45, June 9, 2012 (UTC)
  • The only thing that seems wrong with this, is that it puts the political parties way too far from the centre where they really are, and also exagerates the differences between them. As for what I know of Canadian politics, there is little difference between the parties except for the green one. However, between the other three main parties, there is a variation of maybe .5 points at most. --ShabiDOO 15:20, June 9, 2012 (UTC)
  • I have no issues with the increasing sexuality in society, so long as it isn't graphic. I mean, there are a ton of ways to create an erotically charged scene without resorting to explicit sex and nudity, and to those scenes I shall forever be indebted.

As for my economical and political stance, it seems I am more of the socialist type, and believe authority is necessary but should be exercised with discretion. Careful discretion. Jawaharlal Nehru seems to have completely brainwashed me with his autobiography, it would seem. --Scofield & 1337 11:30, June 10, 2012 (UTC)

What the chart proves

The chat clearly shows that....

Gamma287 is just George Bush in disguise, Sycamore is George Bush, without a Republican House to push through his crazy bills, Shabidoo is the ultimate peace activist, more so than Gandhi, Modusoperandi is Gandhi, Zombiebaron is really just the Dalai Lama in disguise as a Satan-worshiping admin, Socky and Black Flamingo are really the same person, Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin are actually who they say they are, Cat the Colourful is a swing voter, High_General_Aimsplode is obviously the best person in history.....he just is. A (Ruins) 23:32, 9 June 2012

Interestingly while it's true to say that my views on economics and gradual shift to more radical politics is obvious from the first time I did the test, we all occupy roughly similar axis on social politics around sex, race etc.--Sycamore (Talk) 07:13, June 10, 2012 (UTC)
