Andor is a 2022 action-adventure series set in the Star Wars universe. The first three episodes were released on September 21 on Disney+.

Premise[edit]

The show is set five years before his death in Rogue One, and follows Cassian Andor as he makes his way through the galaxy, to how he became a spy for the Rebellion.

Production[edit]

Many have critised the existance of show, calling it "useless" due to knowing how Cassian dies five years after the series is set. Then again, everybody knew that Darth Vader dies at the end of Return of the Jedi, but George Lucas didn't get flak for making the prequel trilogy, now did he?

Cast and characters[edit]

  • Diego Sun as Cassian Andor: A thief who gets himself into trouble with the Law after visiting a brothel.
  • Kyle Steamroller as Syril Karn: The Deputy Inspector of the Imperial Rent-A-Cop program.
  • Adria Arjona as Weet-Bix Caleen: A mechanic who kept secrets from her boyfriend, resulting in said boyfriend giving information to the Empire, and them killing him as a thank you.
  • Stellan Skarsgård as Luthen Rael: Some rich guy who is apart of the Rebel Alliance.

1 "Cassablanka" Toby HaynesTony GilroySeptember 21, 2022  (2022 -09-21)
Andor visits a nightclub brothel looking for his sister, which is kinda weird and incesty. However, it is later revealed that he is looking for his sister because he was seperated from her when he was a boy, and not because he wanted a private dance from her. While at the club, Andor gives a funny look to two Imperial Private Security cops, and they attempt to fine him for it. Since Andor had no credits on him, he punched one of them in the face, killing him somehow. The other cop then begs for his life, but Andor shoots him just like how he had shot him the funny look earlier. Detective-something Serial Corn of the orange and blue Imperial security cops then starts an investigation to track down Andor even though his boss told him not to but the story has gotta story.
2 "That Would Be Nice" Toby HaynesTony GilroySeptember 21, 2022  (2022 -09-21)
Andor has a few more flashbacks to his forrest tribe that goes nowhere. He sets up a meeting with Pennywise's father with a mechanic that he knows so that he can sell an Imperial computer thingy he stole off-screen. The Imperials get a lead from the boyfriend of Weet-Bix Caleen (the mechanic from before) about Andor because he thinks that he might be having an affair with his girl or something — adding yet another jealous love arc to the franchise. They get a SWAT team ready to take in Andor, but since the costume department didn't have the budget for a couple Stormtroopers, the SWAT team is only comprised of a couple guys with their non-protective orange and blue tunics.
3 "Wrecking" Toby HaynesTony GilroySeptember 21, 2022  (2022 -09-21)

The Imperial SWAT team kicks in Andor's door, only to find his adoptive mother and red box droid. The Buyer (Pennywise's dad) is on his way to meet Andor on the space bus when a fellow passenger annoys him for the rest of the ride trying to sell him deathsticks. Although he was a Buyer, he was not in the mood to buy space drugs from an old man. The old man also pick-pocketed the Buyer's wallet, which he would of gotten away with had he not flat out told the Buyer that he took it.

Back with the SWAT team, they split up to look for Andor after he used a walkie-talkie to give away his position. Along the way, the townspeople come together to form a band so that they could distract the Imperials. Weet-Bix is arrested after she tried to run away, and her boyfriend Tom is shot. Tom was also the one who sent the anonymous top to the Po-Po about Andor's location, after he saw Andor talking with his girl at a bar. Andor tries to sell the computer box he stole, but the Buyer is only interested in Andor. Not in a gay way or anything, but he wants Andor to come with him. Okay now that sounds gay, but it wasn't meant to be. Anyway, Andor and the Buyer then get into a shoot-out with the SWAT team, and they blow the factory up and get away in the sewer, only to make yet another escape later on a speeder bike.

In another flashback, young Andor and his tribe of children kill a Republic crew member who was injured after his ship crashed — because it was easier to put him out of his misery than waste medical supplies. But now that they had killed a member of the Galactic Republic, it dawned on them that Clone Troopers and Jedi will be dispatched to take them out. Andor is having a rage fit when a woman knocks him out and takes him. This woman is actually is his 'adoptive' mother, and the reason why Cassian hasn't seen his sister in years. Back in the present, Andor boards the Buyer's ship, ending the three episode premiere.
4 "Weird Al" Susanna WhiteDan GilroySeptember 28, 2022  (2022 -09-28)
Cassian goes to the planet Weird Al with the Buyer, and joins a crew of bank robbers. He is told that they plan on stealing 80 million credits from an Imperial base so that they can finally afford to buy a Playstation 5 on eBay from a scalper. Meanwhile on Coruscant, the Buyer, who is actually a Seller of old stuff, meets with Senator Mon Mothma, to talk about doing some rebel stuff.
5 "The Hammar Remembers" Susanna WhiteDan GilroyOctober 5, 2022  (2022 -10-05)

Cassian and his team of rebel robbers prepare for the heist by watching the film Inside Man instead of training to be undercover Imperial Mud Troopers. On Coruscant, Karn gets a new job at an office, complete with a Star Wars version of a tie. It does not fight, however.

Mon Mothma starts a charity so she can credit launder the money after the heist. Elsewhere, ISB agent Meero starts to piece together the plot of show since the writers have gotten confused on what to do with a Star Wars show without Jedi and lightsabers.
6 "A Nose" Susanna WhiteDan GilroyOctober 12, 2022  (2022 -10-12)

Heist time! A wife and child are taken as hostages, there is a cool Call of Duty type underwater scene, and someone almost blows their cover — checklist of a good heist film almost complete. The rebels then pull a big brain by making the hostage troopers be the ones to load all of the credits onto the ship instead of them. And people say slavery is bad...

A nosy radioman finds out that something is wrong with the comms, and gets the remaining non-hostage Imperial forces to start a massive firefight with the rebel bank robbers. After pretty much everyone dies, Cassian, Skeen, Vel, and Nemik escape with their stolen loot, but not before Nemik breaks his back by not lifting with his legs despite the warning on the crates. A cool TIE fighter scene ensues, but due to the thing set up earlier in the episode, all the TIE's are destroyed and Andor manages to fly the ship away.

A four armed doctor tries to save Nemik, but due to a trailer spoiler, fails. Skeen tries to get Cassian to help him steal the stolen credits once again, but for themselves this time. Cassian kills Skeen, takes his cut of the credits, buys a ship, and then leaves.
7 "Loud Speaker Message" Benjamin CaronStephen SchiffOctober 19, 2022  (2022 -10-19)

After the news of the heist makes it way to Coruscant, we get our first The Clone Wars cameo of the episode in the form of Admiral Yularan. Marki, the assisant of the Buyer Seller, meets with Vel and instructs her to find and kill Cassian for the sake of having a new B-plot. Mon Mothma throws a party and drinks too many strong politic cocktails. The second The Clone Wars cameo comes in a flashback when Andor remembers when some racist Clone Troopers shot his (adoptive) dad for jaywalking using a rock (instead of paper or scissors). Cassian attempts to get Maarva to leave Ferrix with him, but she decides to stay so that we can get to the scene with Andor by himself.

On Niamos, Cassian has a one night stand, and on a trip to the local shop to get some milk and nuts, he is confronted by our third and final The Clone Wars cameo. The Sherrif Shoretrooper (voiced by the one and only Darth Maul Sam Witwer) arrests Andor for using a deodorant he doesn't like the scent of, and is sentenced to six years imprisonment.
8 "Naboo No. 5" Toby HaynesBeau WillimonOctober 26, 2022  (2022 -10-26)
In prison, Andor makes license plates for starships to pass the time while he serves his sentence. The prison guards wear some fancy shoes, since the floor is very slippery because the water roomba droid is bad at its job. As Andor spends a month in the slammer, the ISB finally get their shit together and start to crack down on finding Andor and the other Rebels. Luthon meets with Saw Grueilla so he can try to sell him Starkiller's armour from The Force Unleased for the low price of a digital edition PS5 and a couple Star Wars AK-47s so he can turn a profit reselling them to the Russians as they invade Ukraine
9 "Everybody Listen" Toby HaynesBeau WillimonNovember 2, 2022  (2022 -11-02)
The ISB continue to torture people, while Andor and Caeser continue to do prison stuff. When its revealed that all the prisoners are getting extended sentences, Andor convinces the other inmates to stop taking their english classes and escape. Bix starts a radio station, but is shut down after promoting Rebel propaganda.
10 "One Way In" Toby HaynesBeau WillimonNovember 9, 2022  (2022 -11-09)
The prisoners stage their Great Escape, but are foiled when it turns out that most of them can't swim and drown while trying to get away. This is (not) the way (out).
11 "Son of a Fox" Benjamin CaronTony GilroyNovember 16, 2022  (2022 -11-16)
Maarva dies, and the entire planet holds a funeral for her. The Empire uses this to lure Andor out of hiding, still not knowing that they had him locked up for months, nor that he even escaped.
12 "Rocky Road" Benjamin CaronTony GilroyNovember 23, 2022  (2022 -11-23)
During the funeral, Weird Al shows up to play a gig, in which he plays the song "Rocky Road", making all the attendees hungry, which makes them start a riot against the Imperial Police. Luthen plans on killing Andor during the confusion, but lets him live after seeing that he can loot the local museum without being arrested. Andor escapes the Empire, Kyril and Dedra have a romantic moment, and the Death Star is built.

Reception[edit]

Reception to Andor is mixed. Some say it is the best Star Wars in years, while some just don't like it. It is the second piece of media in Star Wars to not feature a Jedi, a Sith, or a lightsaber, with the first being Solo (if you don't count Maul's quick cameo). Those that worked on the show stated before the shows release that it will not focus heavily on the already established lore of the universe, making fans skeptical if the show was going to be any good. Additionally, the first trailer for the show revealed a weapon; a spaceified version of the real life AK-47. Blasters in Star Wars have always been based on real guns, but have been modifed enough to not regonise them immediately. Since the show had already been filmed, and with Disney not wanting to spend even more on visual effects, the AK-47 was left in the show — even though it broke the "immersion" and "realism" of the galaxy far, far away for those that even bothered to watch the show.
