So I was just on IRC with Magic Man and we got talking about all the users we miss dearly that have left us. We realize that a lot of people quit because of other commitments, but what about the users that got sick of us that don't pop in on the odd occasion but have simply left us never to return? So I was thinking instead of them getting the odd E-mail every 3 months from 1 user asking them to come back, we get a huge petition for them to come back. A list of people who wish they never quit in the first place to follow the below instructions:

Sign your name next to a user you miss
Wait until the 14th of November when we should have a decent amount of names clocked up
Everyone on the 14th E-mails the user over the 24 hour period via Special:EmailUser with a link to this forum and a note about why they miss them
Overwhelmed with E-Mails being told they are missed they might, just might, think about coming back from their absence

Hmmm...

I think that the list of users that we want to come back is far longer than the list of users who we have left. Many of them had reasons for leaving beyond being too busy or just getting sick of the place. I personally left because the level of funny dropped as users who were good writers were pushed out due to others not being good at sharing their toys, and I was getting more frustrated with the politics than getting any fun of of the writing. (I have become busy IRL as well, but that's an aside.) I'm now over at the mirror site working on getting that to be a more accurate mirror, and once I've finalised the image importing, then I'll possibly start writing there again. The one email per 24-hour period apparently applies to everyone. Here's the response I received from wikia:

Hello Simslikesims, Thanks for contacting Wikia and not letting BB go contact us first because I did not want his feces thrown at me. I had just taken a long shower, it seemed like a waste of hot water to just have to go back in. Unfortunately, the "action throttled" message is correct. Back in late 2010 and early 2011 we found that spammers and vandals had begun to manipulate the EmailUser functionality to either harass users or to simply send them spam. As such, after looking at the numbers of /legitimate/ uses of EmailUser, we found a very low number of users using the function and an even lower amount using it more than once a day. The low use was probably due to the fact that there are no links to EmailUser in the skin-that-shall-not-be-mentioned. As such, there is a one-a-day, 24-hr throttle hardcoded into our system. Have you considered leaving a message on the talk page of the users? I certainly like Uncyc's idea, we can definitely investigate about helping you guys out in another way if you find the talk page method is going to be ineffective. That way we don't suck so much termite buttocks.
